Bar & Bistro Speyk — Restaurant in Flushing

We walked past this place a few times looking for somewhere to eat. One time when we past the greeter waitress greeted us and translated the menu for us which was very kind and lovely. We sat down, and another waitress asked us if we wanted drinks. We ordered coffee. But then the waiters/waitresses never returned to us and it felt like they were keeping distance. They weren't busy. We assumed with them not checking again that the first lady had put our food order in. I thought I'd ordered when the lady translated the menu, and I checked with my partner and he thought same. We both agreed that with them not checking on us again we must have ordered. We waited over an hour. We got starred at from a far a few times (well my partner did) but no one approached us directly until my partner tried to shout. We asked if there was a food order for us. Was told we hadn't ordered food just coffee. I asked to pay for our coffee and leave. The waitress (original waitress who greeted and translated for us) apologised. And we didn't blame her for anything. We knew our assumption about ordering on walking in must have been a misunderstanding. But it was the fact the two waiters working that area didn't come back to check on us or ask us if we wanted anything else for over an hour that got us. Yet stared at us from the distance (stared at my partner) And were often standing round chatting in the distance not doing much. As I say, they...

In my opinion, just a tourist trap… -1⭐️ The pub isn’t really clean, the tables are sticky, the toilets are a mess. -1 ⭐️ The waiter was motivated like a sloth. Doesn’t cared about our wishes, doesn’t cared about our opinion at the end of the lunch nor even said good bye to us when we left. -1⭐️ There are hardly vegetarian alternatives. You can’t change the burger, even if it is mentioned in the menu. The ordered salad was a joke. 15,50€ for 5 slices of goat cheese and a handful of green stuff. We then asked for some white bread, as my wife would leave hungry otherwise. We got dark bread instead with some topings we didn’t ordered and payed another 3,50€. 1⭐️ The Burger patty tastes like sausage, the bun was cold and fluffy and the fries were soft.

We ordered the cheese burger and fries. The staff were very friendly and helpful and gave us advise on the menu. The burger and fries were really nice, we really enjoyed it and I really liked the side salad with the mustard vinegarette. The service was great 👍 I really liked that we could laugh and joke with the staff. The location was great and the place has a very cosmopolitan feel, chilled and relaxed which we enjoyed. Great food, decent beer, great location, friendly staff we would definitely 💯% visit again when I come back...
