The Dog's Bollocks — Restaurant in Groningen

We visited the Dog's redacted due to content filter 😂 on a Thursday evening which is usually one of the busiest times and it showed. The place was packed and lively (bit too noisy for my taste, but it's a pub so that's to be expected).

Even though there was not that much staff the service was pretty quick and definitely friendly. Which, considering how busy the place was, pleasantly surprised me.

The staff was well aware of "empty glasses" and waiting for new drinks didn't take too long so that's a big plus.

I opted for the smokey burger which was great. The fries where a bit on the "too salty" side but otherwise very tasty. Going to have to dock a star there as Google doesn't allow half stars.

It's also great to see a mix of local and foreign beers on tap. The Guinness was properly served. Beer pricing seems pretty on par with what is too be expected these days.

The one thing that stood out to me where the finger food prices. I don't visit bars that often anymore so I might be a bit out of touch but not even my mild hunger could push me to pay 8 euros for 8 bitterballen 😅

Was here during one of the World Cup games of December 2022 and the atmosphere was absolutely amazing. Of course, the burgers were the main treat of the show. I've had a lot of bad burger experiences, especially in The Netherlands, but this one has got to be the best one I've ever tried. I took the Italian Burger which was served with some interesting foccacias replacing the usual brioche burger buns. Amazing! Fries were also delicious and I was glad to see that they were freshly peeled instead of being quickly defrozen like it usually happens in other places. 10/10 would recommend.

We made a reservation and we sat down with the menus and waited 20 minutes and no one approached us to take our orders. We had to sit up and go to the bar to ask for someone to take the order. Once the food arrived, they forgot two portions of fries, and we only ended up receiving one of these, and it was still on the bill. The burgers themselves were fine, but the patty was thicker than usual and overcooked. They didn’t ask us for how we would like it to be cooked either.
