Sunday night - what better way to end the weekend with a cheeky takeout? Looking for something new, we settled on the popular Indian restaurant: India Roti Room.
I opted for the onion bhajis as (to my disapointment) the vegetable samosas contained milk and the mild Bharatta with Roti. The mister went for the vegetable samosas and the medium Alu Shimla with Roti. The food arrived a little longer than the expected time, but we were delighted by the generous portion sizes and free rice.
Unfortunately, the appetizers (onion bahjis and samosas) were dry and came with bland sauces. This was redeemed by the main courses; the potatoes in the alu shimla were cooked to perfection and the spices blend used in the bharatta worked very well with the vegetables in the curry. The rice that came on the side of the curries was flavoured with cumin and other seeds/spices, and was honestly some of the best free rice we've ever been given! The only big criticisms of the food were that the curries were quite oily, and the single small roti we got for each curry was very disappointing.
Overall the India Roti Room was ok but nothing particularly special. It would have been nice to have been given a couple more rotis (one small roti per person really isn't enough), and the good flavours of the main courses were not enough to make up for the bad starters and how oily...

Ordered Chicken masala, baingan bhartaa , dal makhani and naan.
The order was received quicker than expected
The food is good quality + the quantity is very good. For a family of 4, we received almost 7-8 naans and one box of rice and we still had food left after we were done with eating
The taste is average. Would give about a 6/10.
The price point compared to other Indian eating places is fantastic. We would definitely like to come and dine in the restaurant next time.
Bhartaa was too finely blended, originally when it's made - it's not this fine or wet, so may be something that could be worked upon
Dal makhani - my husband is a Punjabi and he liked the Dal. Definitely missed the makhani and richness flavor but dal preparation was nice
Chicken masala - I personally liked the masala and tandoori flavor...
Read moreIt could have been lot better. We were there for team dinner and we made prior bookings before hand. The ambience was average so was the sitting arrangement. We ordered both veg and non-veg food. The starters were good I would say. Samosa, pakode, tandoori chicken.... I liked them all. But the main course was disaster. None of the dishes turned out to be well. Chicken tikka masala tasted like tomato puree, dal makhni did not have any taste at all and Palak paneer was unbearable. Worse of all was biryani, sorry to say but never tasted such biryani before. For dessert I had gulab jamun and my colleague ordered rasgulla. He left his sweet dish and even I left half of gulab jamun. Except the tea and starters none of the stuff were tasty enough. So two stars for them. Below...
