Grieks Restaurant Olympos — Restaurant in Haarlemmermeer

Outstanding visit. The Greek restaurant is a delightful building slightly off the main road in this area of Hoofddorp. Accordingly, it's a bit quieter. Once you step inside, the decor of stone and greenery feel welcoming and provide character. Over the course of my meal, the outside grew darker and the dim lighting together with the greenery became warm and intimate.

Service can be a touch slow from time to time as this is a locally run restaurant with a light staff, but the food was outstanding. Each course is served with excellent ingredients, attention to detail, and a great mix of classic Greek tastes.

I particularly recommend the "mixed grill" for dinner as it offered the opportunity to sample several different preparations of Greek meats at a relatively inexpensive price. The gyro meat was the standout, but all of the offerings were well spiced without being salty or overpowered.

I miscalculated a little bit in that I ordered an app and a salad and then my meal. I could have done with just one, as the mixed grill is a very large portion.

I found this place mediocre at best. The ambiance was great and the indoor/outdoor options were nice. Beyond that not much else stood out. I have never been to a Greek restaurant that doesn't serve Hummus. That is typically a staple like salsa at a Mexican restaurant. I had the Mixed Grille. Although the meat was seasoned well I found some of the cuts to be dry, especially the Gyro. You could tell that the chicken had been previously frozen, it has a certain texture when you do that. Nobody to take our coats, bar employee leaning over the tap because he has nothing to do? Owner sitting in the back looking at his PC and only showing up when people want to pay.
