Loetje Laren — Restaurant in Laren

I am an American visiting friends in The Netherlands for three weeks. Last Saturday night, my friends took my brother and I to Loetje Laren. On the way to the restaurant we drove through the beautiful lake district neighborhoods and arrived at Laren, which is one of the more exclusive villages in The Netherlands.

Our reservation was at 8.30pm and when we arrived every single table was full and there were many patrons also at the bar.

Loetje is known for its Biefstek (steaks) and they come in four sauce options (original, garlic, spicy and with chopped liver) and two sizes (regular and XL).

I had the XL Biefstek Ossenhaas, which is the original sauce option. The sauce is like a brown gravy and is quite tasty. My brother had the Knoflook option, which is a garlic gravy (in my opinion this was the best).

The meat comes medium rare to rare unless you specifically ask for it to be prepared in a different way. My steak was very thick as an XL and part of my steak was quite rare.

We ordered mushrooms (which were tender and tasty), salad and fries as our sides. The steaks also come with slices of white bread which can be used to mop up the gravy that comes with the steak.

For dessert, we shared the trio of chocolate. There is also a dessert of the day option as well.

Onprettige ervaring gehad als zwangere bij Loetje Laren.

Afgelopen zaterdag een lekker dagje op stap. We trakteerden mijn ouders in verband met hun trouwdag op een pretecho bij Baby Glimpse en vervolgens een lunch bij Loetje in Laren. Echter was er een man in de bediening die erg bot, sarcastisch en onvriendelijk overkwam. Meerdere keren probeerde hij grappig te doen en zich zeer onbeleefd in onze persoonlijke gesprekken te mengen. Hij corrigeerde mij persoonlijk meermaals als ik als eerste wist wat ik te drinken of te eten wilde, gaf bij mijn moeder aan dat het ging om de opvoeding (sarcastisch richting mij) en noemde mijn vriend een ja-knikker.

Mijn verbazing was nog het grootst toen ik bij het 12uurtje vroeg om een aanpassing. Hij zei direct dat dit niet kon. Ik dacht eerst nog dat hij een grapje maakte, maar hij vroeg vervolgens ook heel direct waarom ik de tonijnsalade niet wilde. Ik gaf aan zwanger te zijn. Daarna trok hij het niet mogen eten van tonijn in twijfel, gaf aan dat iedereen vroeger alles gewoon kon eten en weigerde iets aan te passen, zonder dit bij de keuken te checken. Ik heb toen de clubsandwich kip genomen. Uiteraard was die ook heerlijk, maar ik had in nog geen enkel restaurant meegemaakt dat er geen rekening met een zwangerschap werd gehouden en al helemaal niet dat er zo bot werd gecommuniceerd.

In verband met ons leuke dagje weg besloten mijn vriend en ik ter plekke niks te zeggen, maar wat heb ik mij ongemakkelijk en belachelijk gemaakt gevoeld. Als deze man daadwerkelijk het beleid van Loetje uitdraagt zoals het is bedoeld, komen wij nooit meer in één van de...
