Ron Gastrobar Indonesia — Restaurant in Laren

In short: THE best rijsttafel we had so far! Yeah, I know that in itself isn‘t giving you much information. You need some context: we -a group of at least five - are traveling to the Netherlands regularly for nearly 10 years and are always having rifsttafels at different restaurants. Ron‘s Gastro Bar in Laren was the best experience with indonesian food we had - ever. Starting with a really nice welcome we got from one employee after we sat down, it went on beeing a wonderful evening. Each and everyone of the staff, who came to our table was both very helpful and pleasant. The food was excellent! We had rijsttafel and some samples of streetfood. Delicious! In the end we couldn’t help ourselves and ordered dessert. It just sounded soooo good. And of course it was! Last but not least there is to mention the great interior design of the restaurant. It creates a warm and modern atmosphere. This restaurant is highly recommended for having an altogether...

It started when we booked a table. Waiting list … half an hour later we got our table. The night itaelf the restaurant was not even half full 🤷‍♂️

The restaurant is very narrow, but deep. Upstairs they have some more tables. This means people are walking past frequently. At a nice day a few people can sit outside, although the terrace is sub-optimal (busy street).

The restaurant staff was very friendly, although there is a clear distinction between smart staff (you can have a conversation with) and others (you cannot even makeup what they are saying).

We ordered the specialties of the house, as recommended by the waitress. The food was nice, but ‘no repeat’ for me. The dessert was a weird drink. I consumed (you cannot drink it, you cannot eat it, it comes in a glass with a fork that I see no use for and a spoon) it, bit my friend passed.

It is a ripped off, dishes are way to small for the price I paid, wait half hour for the starter and 45 minutes for the main course. Bowl of white rice is 8,50 euros, rice was hard and cold. Beef was so thin with some filling in it, the most expensive dish was the Spinach… is not organic for 20 euro dish. The manager tried to make up so he gave us 2 bowls of white rice while we don’t have any dish left I ate rice with soy sauce, I feel bad for my family we were out to celebrate my husband birthday who passed away in a sudden.
