We had a lovely dinner for two at Bar Simon last night, it was our first time there but already, it's one of our favorites now. We had their grilled sea brill (dish of the day, I think), served with a mushroom-based cream, sauteed spinach, and sliced potato chips. The fish was flaky and soft, but nicely crisped up on the outside, it was very well made, and the mushroom cream was a good match. Spinach was also done well. For dessert, we tried the creme brulee and ile flottante. Creme brulee was one of the best I've had at a restaurant in the Netherlands! The Ile flottante was also tasty, but the meringue was a bit too sweet for me. They have a decent wine menu, although I wish they had better options per glass.
The restaurant has a beautiful interior, with lots of green plants and paintings on the walls it provides a cozy atmosphere, perfect for a date night. Or any group celebration/dinner as well. The service is one of the best I've seen in the Netherlands too, our food arrived fast although the place was - rightfully - packed full, the staff is knowledgeable about the dishes and really kind. What really made me fall in love with the place was the background music, though. It was a rollercoaster ride of British music from late 90s til ealy 2000s: Sugababes, Kate Nash, Lily Allen and so on... I couldn't help but sing along the whole night. Later we found out the playlist was created by no other than Simone herself, the owner of the bar with whom we we were talking the music when we were paying at the bar!
Unfortunately, we had to skip their appetizers and sides to make room for the creme brulee but next time we'll be back to try the rest of their menu and stay longer for the cocktails too. So happy to have a new favorite in our...
Read moreA wonderful little menu with some very creative dishes, some more tasty than others, but all were beautifully presented. The "canneles" (tiny cakes with "foie gras" sauce and an anchovy on top ...!) were one of the most surprisingly delicious bites we'd ever had - and that's coming from someone who has travelled around Spain a lot and tried many creative pinchos and tapas. The "vol au vent" with two tiny slices of asparagus on top was a bit disappointing and pricy for what it was. On the whole, however, it's a great place to have a drink and share some special bites. The service...
Read moreLoved the friendly and efficient service. We sat upstairs and found the seating comfy, and the decor tasteful. We enjoyed the music which was at the perfect volume. The menu was refreshing - a selection of bites or starters, with 3 main courses and 4 deserts to choose from. We liked that because the attention is in the detail, flavor and presentation. As vegetarians we had a taste experience that has surpassed many other restaurants who don’t always make the effort. All in all a great vibe. Delicious meal. And wonderful evening. Thanks to the...
