I did not expect to be impressed nor to have fun before entering this place. I'm quite glad that my expectations were wrong!
The whole place was a wonderland for people who enjoyed seeking out details. During the whole time as I looked closely at the craftsmanships of the miniatures, I couldn't help but admire all the time, effort and skill spent into making these.
Everything was well thought of, measured and fashioned so skillfully. If you peek into the miniature buildings, you will see rooms, furniture and oftentimes a candid story!
The miniature people themselves were telling stories of their own: the theme park had a roller coaster stuck; a truck got stuck under a tunnel that was not high enough; helicopters lifting cows; Jedis dueling with their lightsabers next to the river; and a penguin getting photo taken inside a cargo container.
There are so many things to see. If you have interest in miniatures and would like to see a wonderland of details, you have to visit here.
They will be opening a whole new world soon, great Britain! I expect it to be a great addition to their whole collection and I will definitely...
Read moreI spent 2.5 hours with my family - adults and kids -in the room with miniatures of Rotterdam's unique landmarks and typical surrounding 'polder' landscapes, which is probably around 500m2 in total. There are so many tiny details at street level to observe, and the miniatures are placed a little under eye's height. Kids can stand on a ledge, placed under the guard rail, that gives them a very good opportunity to see everything with their own eyes. Of course, touching of the miniatures is not allowed. To make it even more realistic, the lights switch from day to night mode. The night is proportionally shorter because you can see less detail, though it shows all the lights on buildings and vehicles, a spledid sight!
There is an open control centre, behind a cord, where you can speak with the operators, sitting behind computer screens. These operators are very friendly and have made a hobby of their work. You see them running from time to time, climbing on the boards and pushing halted trains back into motion. You will have a great...
Read moreWe loved Miniworld!
We popped in during a flying visit to Rotterdam and were so glad that we did.
We headed downstairs first to see the mini UK that's currently being built. A large section is now complete and we enjoyed seeing familiar sights. We also discovered the interactive elements, with buttons located on the barriers.
Going upstairs to the main room was a real Wow moment. The model is huge and the attention to detail was incredible. There's also a great surprise (that I won't spoil) every half an hour or so. We were there for an hour and a half and only left because it was closing for the day.
This is the type of attraction that might only draw in adults accompanying children, but there's something for everyone here and I'd definitely recommend a visit, whatever age you are.
Miniworld is really easy to find and is less than 10 minutes walk from the Centraal Station. Note that the opening days were different from those quoted on Google maps, so always check the Miniworld website...
