Restaurante Orquidea — Restaurant in Rotterdam

We had a dinner for 2 at Cafe Orquidea. We started with the fried eel from their snacks. It was a bit on the salty side (even though i prefer my food saltier than most people), but the breading was OK, with a squeeze of lemon it was better. For mains, we had the beef steak with mushrooms (bife de vitela cogumelos) and baked cod (bacalhau a orquidea). The cod was served with vegetables, baked potatoes and carrots. As a self professed garlic addict, I was quite happy with the obscene amount of garlic: there was visible minced garlic on literally everything on the plate. But beware, the average diner will find it too much. The cod was well-seasond and well cooked on the inside, the skin was a bit too crusty. We also found the beef steak to be too tough, but the mushrooms were OK. To finish off, we saved up room for their bolo de bolacha - highly recommended by a Portuguese friend of mine - but they were out of itm so we went for the pastel de nata. The dessert was certainly the highly of our meal, one of the best paste de natas I've had at a restaurant in the Netherlands.

They don't have a wine menu, which seems like a wasted opportunity for a Portuguese restaurant. But the drinks are affordable, and we found the food to be good value for the money in general. The service was really nice, our waitress was so cheerful and helpful. Inside, the place looks more like an old school pub than a restaurant, but it has a cozy vibe and most of the diners seemed to be the quite chill locals from the neighborhood. I wouldn't recommend it for a date night, but it has a warm vibe to it. We might stop by again for the bolo de bolacha if we're in the...

Een verrassende verschijning op deze locatie. Het getuigt van lef om een eetcafé te beginnen op een plek waar voorheen altijd dubieuze kroegen hebben huis gehouden. Door Social Deal zijn we hier terecht gekomen en wat hebben we van het eten genoten. Alle voorgerechten waren om van te smullen. De calamari waren goed gebakken, de rissois waren heerlijk gevuld en de scampi waren lekker gekruid. Als hoofdgerecht hebben we drie gerechten gekozen om te delen. De kip piri-piri, de bacalhao uit de oven met groenten en de mixed grill. Het was jammer dat we niet met meer mensen waren, dan hadden we meer gerechten genomen. Nu moeten we sowieso terugkomen om die ook te proberen. Bovenaan het lijstje staat dan de T-bone steak. Toetjes waren ook goed verzorgd, meerdere soorten cheesecake (citroen en maria waren de favoriet) en uiteraard de pastel de nata. Kortom we hebben heerlijk gegeten op een plek waar we het niet hadden verwacht. Niks anders dan lof voor de lieve eigenaren die ons van goed en heerlijk eten hebben...

Heerlijk gegeten met ze tweeën in ons laatste date night van 2023 …leuk vriendelijke mensen maar belangrijkste het eten is van hoog kwaliteit en presentatie is verrassend mooi en netjes. Que Diamante este restaurante A senhora Sofia é espectacular e a comida é a mais deliciosa de todos os restaurantes portugueses/ caboverdianos de Rotterdam e eu ja fui a todos ( guloso).
