Molen Van Sluis — Restaurant in Sluis

Best thing about it: The location. The food is extremely average, service - as somebody else already pointed out - abysmal (we waited 20 minutes for somebody to take our orders even though the place wasn't even that busy, staff was unfriendly, unattentive, and some orders were straight-out ignored despite being repeated three times). The cappuccino was ridiculously bad - basically tasted like dilluted burnt filter coffee. The poffertjes were ok. All of this combined with ambitious pricing makes this place a typical tourist trap. Many nicer places around Sluis, so avoid this one unless you want to be...

You could only sit outside and all tables were full but it wasn't long before a table became available. Was hot and sunny and we didn't have shade. We visited because my husband always talked about the apple-ball pie from his childhood with his grandparents and I wanted to try it out. I was disappointed though, I expected the sour-sweet soft apple but got sweet and hard apple. I loved the chai and the children loved the ice-cream, and played with the ice-cream toy for the next couple of days. I might go back to try other dishes, the fries and chicken from the table next to us...

A place that appears to be historical (1739) but has a terrible atmosphere. The staff never smile, and a bald man inside the establishment was extremely rude to us, to the point that even my 11-year-old son commented on the treatment. We left without completing our order; it was impossible to eat anything there. I do not recommend it, I won't return, and I advise against wasting your time at a place where you are not treated well. There are other wonderful options in Sluis. It's sad for the owner, as it's a great place that could be improved, but with such awful people...
