De Eetkamer van Giethoorn — Restaurant in Steenwijkerland

Horrible disrespectful service from the low life man who said he’s “the boss” while violently yelling at my father. They lied about the reservation being at 6:30 for the second day in a row- mind you, we had a confirmation the first night. For the second the reservation was made it in person so unfortunately we had no written proof, but we did have two witnesses from our party that were there when it was placed and confirmed he asked for a 7:30 rez. They then, after trying to gaslight us, didn’t help solve the situation even though there were enough open tables that could’ve been attached to make the reservation possible. Instead they offered us to sit in the empty and very hot indoors. We tried the hot indoor option. We sat there sweating for over 10 minutes and not once did a server come by to even ask if we wanted to order anything, not even water. Then, after yelling at father for simply trying to see what can be done to fix their mess up, he offered us to sit at an old dirty picnic table on the grass between parked cars. Honestly, we were so hungry that if that option had been presented to us calmly and respectfully at the very beginning after taking responsibility for messing up our reservation- we might’ve even went for it. But the whole communication up to that point was so arrogant and aggressive that we just wanted to get the hell out of there. I’ve never experienced such rude, disgusting service. I of course did not try the food so all I can say about that is that it seemed overpriced. After reading more reviews, it seems that people who are not local (let me not assume it’s racism, as I do have reason to believe t might be..) have gotten poor treatment in the past. "De Eetkamer van Giethoorn" is a hidden gem that exceeded all my expectations. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm hospitality and excellent service. Our waitress was attentive, friendly and went out of her way to make our dining experience memorable.

The food was exceptional, and we were particularly impressed with the tenderness of the calf rib eye steak and the taste of the salmon steak. The dishes were served in hot plates, which was a small detail but made a huge difference to our enjoyment of the meal. Every bite was a delight, and it's clear that the chefs at this restaurant take great pride in their craft. The food was created artful and delicious with meticulous attention to presentation.

The atmosphere of the restaurant was lovely, with tasteful decor and a welcoming ambience that made us feel comfortable throughout the meal. The staff were knowledgeable about the menu and were happy to provide recommendations on what to order.

Overall, "De Eetkamer van Giethoorn" is a must-visit restaurant for anyone in the area. The quality of the food and the service provided by the staff are truly exceptional. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great dining experience, and I can't wait to visit again...

Location is nice and looks like a nice atmosphere but unfortunately my family and I received the worst service I have experienced in the Netherlands. We went to celebrate my daughters birthday. We waited at least 30 minutes to receive the menu. Food was nothing special. We were with a group of 10, there were sides that never arrived which we ended up cancelling since we were almost done with our meal. They never came to clear the table after we ate or to ask for more drinks. I ended up having to pick up the dirty plates myself and deliver to the kitchen. They said thank you and did not come to our table to check on us again. I had to go inside many times to ask for service and get things from myself from someone in the kitchen. I almost felt as if I was working there. The waitress walked by several times, would look at us and walk away. I almost felt because were were not Dutch we were being treated this way. Such a shame given this must be a big touristic restaurant. I will definitely not being going there again when coming back to Giethoorn. Lovely town,...
