De Stal Texel — Restaurant in Texel

We had dinner on a Friday night. The place looks really nice and cozy, and although it was already full and we had no reservation we managed to have a table for the four of us. We ordered a gin tonic with local gin (really appreciated) and a bottle of biological red wine (also really good choice). About the food: we went for the lamb trio (a lamb chop, sausages and a piece of lamb shoulder), really looking forward to try local meat. Unfortunately lamb chop was no longer available, so we had more shoulder and sausages instead). Quite a pity since the meat we had was good, but we had higher expectations from this dish. We then went for a dessert: two pieces of cheese cake, and to our surprise the portions were really really small (for a 8€ cake). When asked whether we were happy with the meal, we honestly shared our feedback on the cake. Quite surprisingly, the waiter felt like he had to defend the restaurant, and he said that was the standard size of a portion and that some other customers found it even too much.

Honestly, I don't care what other customers might think, but the one we had was the smallest piece of cake I had in my life at a restaurant. I believe a mature reaction would have been accepting a feedback (that was actually requested), without challenging back a customer's...

De Stal is located in the center of Den Burg, it's easy to find. Has a large terrace, plus plenty tables inside. Do reserve because its popular!!

Service is attentive. You will not sit with an empty glass, and if you have a question, plenty staff to accommodate your needs. The restaurant is clean and fresh, spacious too.

Food is nicely plated, portions are sizeable, and the quality of the food is excellent. The burgers are home made, and no doubt amongst the best i've had. Large selection for vegan too. Fish lovers, there is fresh catch of the day, etc, etc etc. Locally sourced veggies, tasty, tasty. You will not leave hungry!

The environment is beautiful and cozy, and the staff is polite and sweet. My only remark is about the food. The tasty is not bad, but the portions are small for the price, and depending on the dish the quality could be better. Like, the bavette could come in a bigger portion (34€ for 100g) and a better cut, because mine was even difficult to cut (also as no one asked me how cooked I'd like, it came medium rare). The fries weren't crunchy as we expected, but soft on the outside. My wife liked her burger, but my son didn't. The desserts also could be better.
