Located in one of the perimeter buildings surrounding a circular city park is the 3-story brick Van Kinsbergen Gastropub and Brewery. They opened summer of 2018 and intend start their first batch of house-brewed beer in November. The place was inspired by the British gastropub concept which combines great food and an excellent offering of craft beers. Outside you'll see signs with their name and uniformed officer logo. Parking is entered along the street. Along the brick sidewalk is a row of wood picnic tables. The front windows are large with arching tops, and allow plenty of light inside. The main room has several tables in front and on the left. Ahead is their 12-stool 2-sided wooden bar. It has a row of curved stainless steel taps, and a chalkboard lists their core and rotating draft beers. When I visited they had just one house beer, but they will brew more. Their draft beer can be tried on a house sampler flight, but most folks order by the glass. They also have dozens of varieties of craft beer in bottles. Behind the bar are shelves for glassware and an extensive set of liquors and wines. I was impressed at their diverse offering. To the left of the bar is their open kitchen. During off peak hours they serve from a bar menu with a good variety of pub appetizers. They also have dedicated lunch and dinner menus, and daily specials. The dinner menu features a fantastic variety of meat and fish dishes, sandwiches, and more. The menus are in English and the staff is multilingual. They do a great job making patrons feel welcome, and they also have a children's menu. The place has a friendly, cheerful atmosphere. An eclectic variety of American pop music from across many decades is playing. The place has a modern design and ambience. Near the entrance is a small enclosed room that houses their nanobrewery. They have wood jacketed stainless steel pot brewing vessels. I recommend a visit to this...
Read moreService impacts atmosphere. We were a party of four and spent over 200 Euros. The food was good. We got there early - 17:30 and the service was very, very slow. It took at least 20-30 minutes to just order drinks. Then two drinks came quickly and the mixed drinks took way too long -they came 10-15 minutes after the wine and beer. The restaurant wasn't packed. After that point I had to ask, "May we place the food order" and flag down the wait person several times. We asked for ketchup twice before it came. One last small thing-the Portobello mushroom dish was served in a deep bowl. Very, very difficult to enjoy that dish and the pumpkin sauce served with it in that deep bowl. The chef should know better. If you could get your service right then I would have...
Read moreThe food- starters were nice, main course t-bone completely well done while ordering medium-rare. Hamburger I ordered was ok but fries came oy after I was nearly done with my burger.
The service - one of the worst I have seen. Takes long to order drinks, staff was rude, no cleaning up plates, they forgot to bring cutlery for starter and main course etc.
The place looks nice and has potential.
Verdict: I would not go again.
The owner did come back to us via email and offered us to come again for free. This is a very generous offer and is much appreciated (we kindly declined), but it shows they care. I upgrade to two stars because their starter was...
