Restaurant PEX — Restaurant in The Hague

I will be honest, so I Can't call this place restaurant. On my opinion it is a big cafe. We chose this place to celebrate kid's birthday. And I've never been in Pex before, but everybody recommends this place. On phone I had a very friendly guy. He was very helpful and polite. When we come we was a bit lost. Where to go ? What to do? Where to find our table? Finally we stopped one of the waitress who brought us to the place. I knew there had to be coins for kids, so they can choose a little present, but nobody explained how they looked like, till we guess ourselves because the small plastic cards where brought among the kids food. For the rest if you want to know something- you keep asking yourself. Or you just have to be experienced. The food was nice ( no lies) ,everybody liked it. But still I have to say it is overpriced. If you call the place restaurant than, I believe, the stuff has to wear at least pants or skirts, but not tops with tiny shorts. I kan say that is quite dirty place. Toilet was dirty. When toilet paper was finished....bad luck nobody added a new one. Kids corner is dirty and smelly. Toys are broken, old and super dirty. Outside kids corner is also dirty, but here I say ...ok because it is outside. For the rest we got what we had on our list, except birthday chair. It was in the party list, but never happened. Gisteren na werk hierheen gegaan om op het terras een drankje te doen. Helaas begon de ervaring al meteen teleurstellend. Na het bestellen van een drankje heb ik hier veel te lang op moeten wachten – zo lang dat ik serieus overwoog om gewoon weer weg te gaan. De tafel naast ons, die tegelijk met ons arriveerde en net iets eerder bestelde, had hun drankjes al bijna een kwartier eerder dan wij. Zij begonnen aan ronde twee, terwijl wij nog steeds op onze eerste bestelling wachtten.

Toch besloten om te blijven en iets te eten. Achteraf gezien een slechte keuze. Ik ben niet iemand die snel klaagt, en mijn partner al helemaal niet, maar haar geitenkaassalade was echt niet te eten. De geitenkaas was smakeloos, de sla leek niet vers en het geheel was gewoon teleurstellend.

Mijn ervaring met de Big PEX Burger was ook niet veel beter. Bij het bestellen vroeg de serveerster of ik ei op mijn burger wilde. Ik zei nee. Of ik spek wilde? Nee. Extra cheddar? Ook nee. Wat kreeg ik uiteindelijk? Een burger mét ei en spek. Toen ik dit aankaartte, kreeg ik slechts een "Oh, dat is fout gegaan, maar ik heb het echt doorgegeven hoor." Geen aanbod voor een nieuwe burger, geen poging om het recht te zetten. Na 1 hap van de burger was het voor mij klaar.

De algemene indruk? Dit voelt als een opleidingscentrum voor onervaren horecapersoneel, maar dan zonder begeleiding. Dat mensen ervaring moeten opdoen, prima, maar als er geen toezicht of sturing is, leidt dat tot dit soort slechte service. Geldt dit ook voor de keuken?

Het enige positieve? Het Wilhelmina-pepermuntje bij...

It's a good idea to make a reservation as you might wait a bit for a free table especially during summer weekends. Portions are rather small, but the food is really delicious. Is it worth the price? Not quite sure. Desserts are excellent except for brownies. Sometimes they are soft, but every now and then you need a chainsaw to cut off a piece. Also, if you sit outside there are people smoking all around - strange that there is no separate area for smokers. Excellent service and very...
