Definitely not a tourist friendly place. You feel unwelcome the second you walk in, with local regulars staring at you and sniggering amongst themselves, like those saloons in western movies! Then when you go to pay, the shop owner tells you they don’t accept VISA or Mastercard, and in a tone that makes you feel like you should know this already…”this is the Netherlands, we only accept cash or local payment methods”. Which is not true btw, since this was the only place during our entire stay that did not take credit cards. We were then ‘instructed’ to go and withdraw cash from an ATM, and that two of us should stay there and wait, because she said “otherwise you will just leave without paying”.
