This place was a huge disappointment. On the good side the place is beautifully decorated and has a nice vibe if you want to go for drinks or a borrel. However, we went there a couple of days ago and had such a frustrating experience. We went for dinner and food took around 1.5 hours to arrive (no, I’m not exaggerating!) Even bringing drinks took longer than normal. The waitresses apologize several times but still. Then, we the food finally arrived, it has at best mediocre. We order the burger and a curry dish. The burger was like a Hendo burger! The meet was tiny and flat, with a simple bun (the ones you buy at Jumbo for 1€), and poorly seasoned. The fries seemed like they fried them several times as they were dark and crispy (but in the bad way). The curry was just ok, a bit better than the burger but nothing special. I’m giving two stars and not one because the staff was friendly with the fact they were too late and they gave us a free round of drinks. Yet, I would say that, if you are understaff don’t open the full restaurant as clearly you will jeopardize the quality of the experience for people. Also, while the prices were standard, I will say that for the quality of food they offer is an overpriced place. Well, for sure this is a place we will...
Read moreI went to the beach with my two small girls and decided to have lunch after all fun. I picked this place as I remembered visiting it a few times last year. The feeling was cold and cheap from beginning as the place was now feeling very stripped down from anything additional. Nothing warm, special or welcoming. The place wasn’t full, but the girl taking customers didn’t make any effort to sit us down as we didn’t have a reservations. I got immediately a feeling of not so good service. We were told to get food from the next door take-away side. I’m not used to paying 5 euro for one kids lemonade, and prices seemed expensive. Food was on paper cartons… wasn’t bad, but just mediocre bar food. My earlier feeling was confirmed as the very young stuff was not professional, helpful or doing anything to make you feel appreciated. Sort of arrogant. The last funny thing that happened was with a parasol. I’m sitting in the sun, at the table eating with a 3 and 5 year olds. A guy walks in and asks if we are needing the parasol. I said not for long, because we were about to be done. He said ok, takes the parasol and says that you can rent them for 10 euros… I didn’t know that, And it made me feeling weird and annoyed....
Read moreGreat vibe & service, but raw satay was a miss
I reserved a beach dinner at Kayuka Zandvoort with three girlfriends. We ordered the nachos, chicken karaage, and satay chicken sticks. The food was tasty overall, but unfortunately, my satay chicken was raw on the inside, which made it inedible and quite concerning.
I usually don’t complain, but this felt unsafe. I mentioned it to the staff, and three different team members came over to listen and handle the situation. I really appreciated how seriously they took it and the way they resolved it. The owner was also kind and apologetic.
Despite the hiccup, I’d still recommend Kayuka for the amazing beach vibes and beautiful decor. The sea view is stunning and the atmosphere perfect for a relaxed dinner.
As for drinks, they were okay, but I found my cocktail too light — more like a lemonade, especially considering the price. A bit stronger would’ve made it more worth it.
All in all, a lovely place with great potential — just watch that the kitchen keeps an eye on...
