Disappointing Service Despite Heavenly Eggs Benedict
I visited Moxi Cafe in Ohope with my grandmother, and while the Eggs Benedict I ordered was absolutely heavenly, the experience was overshadowed by unclear pricing policies and unprofessional behavior.
I initially ordered three sides (grilled tomatoes, halloumi, and toast) to be served on a separate plate for my grandmother. However, I was told this would cost $8 per side if served on a different plate, which wasn’t explained clearly and not written on the menu. When I asked why this was the case, no proper explanation was provided. To avoid the extra charge, I requested the sides be added to my plate with my Eggs Benedict and simply asked for an extra empty plate to share.
The cashier was polite and helpful, agreeing to process the sides at their menu price accordingly. However, during this exchange, another staff member, possibly the manager, made a remark to the cashier, saying, “I know what you did there.” The tone of the comment felt unnecessary and left me uncomfortable, especially as the cashier was just trying to assist me.
To add to this, the coffee we ordered was far too bitter unfortunately, which was disappointing given the cafe’s otherwise inviting atmosphere.
While the Eggs Benedict itself was absolutely divine, the lack of clear communication regarding pricing and unprofessional interactions detracted from what could have been a great...
Read moreStopped in for our final breakfast before leaving the Ohope portion of our mini-moon, again on recommendation from the locals. Service wasn't too fast meaning we had plenty of time to finish our drinks and order fresh ones. But when it did arrive breakfasts were good sized portions and very tasty with fresh items. I had vine tomatoes on toast and added some bacon. I only wish I had a couple more tomatoes. But delicious nonetheless. Wifey had the keto big brekkie and loved it. Everything was cooked to perfection. We only had one concern to note and that was the locals were allowed to bring their dogs into the dining area. Not a problem for us as none sat so close it was a problem. But we did notice staff stopping and patting all the dogs. We just hope all washed their hands before carrying on with their...
Read moreWent today (Sunday morning) waited 40 minutes for a coffee. When I went and spoke to the chef who said she was the manager I was met with an extremely rude lady. I asked why my coffee was taking 40 minutes and she said she was busy. I alluded to the fact that I counted 8 empty tables and she told me her version of busy was different to my version of busy. Was extremely rude in telling me this with a terrible tone in her voice. Overall terrible experience and will be taking my future business across the Rd where you are actually treated with respect. This place has consistently raised its prices and dropped its quality after the last couple years. Better off taking your business to “The Quay” across the Rd or the “Port Ohope General store and cafe”...
