Ocean View Motel — Hotel in North Island

It really is an ocean view! Over the road from a fabulous pacific coast, rolling wave beach. Fabulous sunrises. Long walks on the huge gently graded Ohope Beach. The lodge where I stayed was fabulous. Watch the waves from the bed 😊. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was very clean and large for the size of the room. Lots of hot, high pressure water. Luxurious towels and quality linen. It is small and the TV set up is interesting but who needs tv with that view. I cooked lovely food with the electric frypan the cooking area is tiny but well stocked with all you could need. Easy walking distance to local restaurants and bars. Dishes were taken away and washed quickly which I thought was great, no washing! Comfy outdoor seating/eating area. A fabulous position to just sit, relax, enjoy the sounds of nature and the perfect environment or walk for miles along flat footpaths. A real holiday destination. Wonderful hosts always available...

What a fantastic motel! The staff are wonderful, the rooms clean and fittings modern. Our unit was on the second floor, and we spent a lot of time on the balcony with its view of Whale Island and the never ending roar of the waves. The road is not busy and there was no traffic noise at night.

It's less than ten minutes walk to some nearby cafes and bars. Supermarket shopping is over the hill in Whakatane. Check out the Ohiwa Oyster Farm for some fresh takeaways, and maybe, like us, you'll spot a sting ray at the water's edge.

The big attraction of course is the endless beach, whether walking for hours or taking on the boisterous breakers. There's plenty there...

Disclaimer: This is the second time that I've booked at this Motel. The first time there was a double booking but Glynis kindly sorted other accommodation in the same area at the same price. This time accommodation was changed to a different location the other day and then I got my original booking back. I didn't ask why but trusted Glynis to work it out.
