Not good. Here's why. They have a very small restaurant, had about 25 patrons in. With 8 staff on that night, plenty you would think but they concentrate so much on the takeaway side of the restaurant that the sit in customer suffers. Watched takeaway after takeaway go out while we waited way too long for our meal. Then they forgot our roti bread and when it came out was under cooked. Never had doughy roti bread before. My Lamb Masala contained all bad cuts of lamb. Although tender meat it had the stringy sinew through it. I told the cashier at the end of the meal. She seemed embarrassed and did not know what to do. I consistently get good Lamb Masalas but this one was probably the 2nd worst one based on taste. There seemed to be only one waiter. Didn't pick up used dishes so our table piled up with them. Didn't check on us or ask if we wanted more drinks. Only good thing was the papadums and small assortment of relishes offered for when we arrived. Apart from that very disappointed. Mumbai Marsala. Treat your sit in customers better. They are paying more for...
Read moreMumbai Masala Papamoa has quickly become one of my all-time favourite local spots. Every meal here is a flavour explosion — rich, authentic, and perfectly balanced. You can tell the chefs take real pride in their craft; every curry is layered with depth, and the naan is soft, warm, and cooked to perfection.
The service is just as impressive — friendly, genuine, and attentive without being overbearing. Whether you’re dining in or grabbing takeaway, they make you feel genuinely valued.
The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the portions are generous, and the consistency is remarkable — every visit is a 10/10 experience.
If you love Indian cuisine (or even if you think you don’t yet), this place will convert you. Easily the best Indian food in the Bay, and honestly, one of the best meals you’ll find anywhere.
Highly recommend the butter chicken, lamb rogan josh, and garlic naan — but you really can’t go wrong with anything...
Read moreWe stumbled upon this restaurant based on recommendations from friends during our visit to Tauranga, and I must say, it exceeded all expectations.
What sets this place apart is its authenticity. Unlike other restaurants, this place has a genuine taste of India, which is a rare find outside the country.
For starters, we ordered chicken tikka and momos (prepared in an authentic Nepalese style, which was AMAZING!). For mains, we had chicken tikka masala, lamb curry and butter naan. Every dish was exceptional, with just the right balance of flavors and not overly heavy on oil, unlike many other places.
The warm hospitality of the staff, particularly Ashok, the manager, made this place distinct. His recommendations based on our preferences truly enhanced our experience.
This restaurant is a hidden gem in Tauranga and a definite must-visit if you're in the area. I'll certainly be returning on my next trip...
