August 2018 - I was having a late lunch at this eatery on a Wednesday afternoon. The first time I dine in at this place, it is a restaurant cum bar on the ground of a 1925 building, which is situated on the corner of George Street and Stafford Street. They offer bistro dishes including steak & seafood. There is one entrance into this restaurant cum bar via George Street.
I ordered a Prawn Green Curry Bowl where the rice 🍚 is on the bottom of the green curry while the prawns and bean sprouts on the top garnished with chopped spring onions. It also comes with fried crackers. The only let down of this dish was the rice as it became quite soggy and I prefer that the rice is to be served on the side [in a bowl]. This is a mild flavoured curry (sorry curry lovers, it is not a hot or spicy curry) and is flavoursome. It is not a thick but watery type curry. Generous amount of prawns given (last count was 8 pieces) and it was not overly cooked.
They serve brunch, lunch and dinner which brunch and lunch menus overlapped from 11am while the dinner menu is totally different. The snacks and desserts are served all day!
For those who have food allergies, the good news is that they are an allergy friendly restaurant and almost 70% of their menu can be served gluten-free. There are plenty of dishes to choose from this restaurant compared to other restaurants which only a limited number of dishes that can be served as gluten-free.
This is a licensed eatery and you can order the drinks 🍻🍸🍷🍾🍹🍺. There is no outdoor dining area and there is a smoking 🚬 area in their outdoor courtyard next to the toilets.
Street parking 🅿 only.
Friendly staff with a good customer service.
They accept cash, EFTPOS and credit card payments (yes, Paywave is available), for those who want to know.
Would I go back? Maybe 😏 Would I recommend? Yes 😊

Read moreVery Impressive. Stopping in for lunch proved to be a delightful treat. The staff were very welcoming and professional and knew that window tables are popular so offered to get a recently used table ready. It was excellent to see the staff actually clean the table. The menu offered many choices and it was difficult to choose but we settled on the Sole Fillet and chicken schnitzel with a side of Makikihi fries. I love it when a restaurant embraces a local product (Makikihi fries) and the were very nice albeit unneeded as the lunch mains were quite generous. The sole filets were light, beautifully battered, hot and tasty. The schnitzel chicken was crunchy, moist and juicy. Both mains had well matched sides that accompanied the main very well. The tartare sauce with the sole was a highlight. Water was provided and we also enjoyed a very nice coffee (Atomic) delivered by the attentive, polite and professional staff. This was a highlight of our day in Timaru and I cannot recommend it enough. We will be back for sure. Thank you to The Oxford...
Read moreMy wife and I chose The Oxford to have a dinner to celebrate our wedding with our closest New Zealand friends and relations. We live in Sheffield in the UK and had previously celebrated our wedding with our UK friends at one of the best restaurants in Sheffield. We were seated in a special area for larger groups with plenty of room for our 20 guests to mingle and chat.
We could not have hoped for a more perfect day. Clarissa and Michael were the perfect hosts. Clarissa looked after us personally and made sure we had everything we wanted. We started with a lovely selection of New Zaland beers and wines for an informal gathering to catch up before the lunch. The food was absolutely outstanding. I had steak and it was one of the best cuts of meat that I have ever had. I was really impressed by the wide range of excellent wine that they had available and the prompt and friendly service from Clarissa and the staff was outstanding.
We had a marvellous time and we are so grateful to Clarissa and Michael for giving us such a...
