EDIT: After getting the somewhat snarky reply from the owner about having 4 very experienced Thai chefs - why would you put THAT many green peppercorns (great huge bunches of them!) into one portion of curry?? Other than that awful flavour there was nothing else good about the curry in terms of flavour, it was bland. Because you chose to take such offence at the remarks to do with your fried rice - all I can say is that ours was utter mush. From my experience, it shouldn't be mushy or soggy with oils. Thai food is one of my absolute favourite foods to eat, I love spicy foods etc and have eaten it all over the place. I cannot understand the hype around your restaurant, all of us that had your food found it awful, bland, mushy etc. I think maybe you've gotten complacent and rely on having hosted "the then PM of NZ in 2020" - don't let it get to your head and let your standards slip!! Again, I've never tasted such awful rubbish and in this day and age where buying out is a luxury for a lot of people - I was beyond disappointed!! If I were eating inside the restaurant I would have demanded a refund as we couldn't eat more than a few mouthfulls of our dishes. The Thai Container operating out of the caravan along Bealey Ave is FAR superior to you in our opinion!! And people would save some money too.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: Absolutely disgusting jungle curry!! Had these green berry things I am not familiar with in it that made the whole dish taste of ONLY that, and the flavour was INTENSE and just awful! (I'm sure green pepper corns, but why SO MANY?!!) On my third mouthful I encountered a particularly nasty flavour and it caused me to almost vomit at the table, I had to run with everyone watching! In terms of flavour, this was the WORST jungle curry I have EVER had. Also got a "fried" rice that must have just been boiled as it certainly wasn't fried! Mushy and awful, full of oil - bland in flavour yet again. I cannot and will not recommend this Thai restaurant, so sad as we presumed it would be good by the "hype" surrounding...

Very disappointed, poor management of resources and staff.... for large booked groups expect delays or the need to leave, like us... lacked standard in hospitality and common courtesy it was a birthday dinner ending with the birthday girl in tears and apologising to us...

We had a birthday booking 10x total, booked/arrived for 5.30pm start, paid for drinks and walked out at 7.15pm No Mains...Needed Mcdonalds on way home... Kept getting told that short staffed, BUT they kept taking phone orders and walk ins.

They offered to start our Mains as a priority if we stayed... not we had ordered our mains at 5.45pm

We did ask if we could politely discuss with Manager (who was in kitchen) advised no too busy... in the end was actually advised by their own staff she didn't (Manager) want to talk to us :-(

Turns out we weren't the only ones, a group of three whom had starters walked off and we saw them a few doors at the F&C shop.

Abalone Thai... we travelled out from Rolleston specifically to enjoy your fine foods to celebrate a birthday (as we have done many times before) all to the disappointment of tears, frustration, lack of understanding, empathy and most important of all good hospitality... you...

I wouldn’t go back again! We went there as we were new to CHCH, love Thai food! Celebrating a millstone in our family we decided to go out for dinner.... We called earlier to make sure we had a table- 7 people, 4 kids 3 adults, well all I can say is what the hell happened Abalone???? 1hr wait for starters and had to tell them they only brought us half the order. Now we wait.... 1.5 hrs later our mains arrived in drips and draps. I’ve never tasted bland food like that with Thai, ordered hot and I had no spice at all!!!! Sent back, came back kinda okay. My daughter received her food last and it was chicken and chip, what the hell???? So easy to cook!!! The waitress staff, continued to say I’m sorry we busy.... Really? Not that busy guys? And even if you busy, look after your customers. I’m really disappointed! When I pay $20 for a main for a family of 7, I...

For a few weeks this has been my go to restaurant for solo dining when I'm in need of some good food and quiet. I enjoy spice, and the Thai hot option is a good balance of spicy but not excessive. The Chicken Pad Peanut sauce was incredible, and a good portion size. The Pad Thai and other noodle dishes are also great. I wish the rice portion was a little bigger, as I felt like I was rationing how much I was using with the main at times. Otherwise, friendly service, a nice relaxed atmosphere and good food.

Excellent value for money. The taste is great. The restaurant has a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. Background noise is not a problem, it is a good place for group discussion. Very friendly service. The option to bring your own drinks is also great!
