My Husband and I set out for a lovely valentines dinner at Bishop Bros Pub in Bishopdale because it was the first restaurant we went to on our first date. We have enjoyed the experience a few more times for our anniversary and for birthdays. Valentine’s Day 2024 will live in the memory books as the last year we celebrated at this establishment. We arrived early for our 5pm booking. Our waitress seated us right away and all was going well. We made our order my Husband ordered a steak medium rare and I ordered the Fettuccini with chicken and bacon. We waited what seemed like a bit of time for our meal having a lovely laugh and talk as married couples do when our meal finally arrived. That’s when the night started to take a downward turn. My pasta was way too hot to eat and my husbands steak was overcooked. After having a chat with our waitress about getting his steak cooked correctly I sat with molten pasta waiting for it to cool while my husbands steak was remade. Finally getting the temperature of the steak correct we are able to enjoy our meal. It was very delicious and generous portions. I ate only half of mine and when my husband finished we put the remainder he wanted to bring home in my bowl to give to our waitress to pack for us to take home. We ordered our desserts and an extra dessert to take home. He ordered the cheesecake and I ordered the chocolate Sundae. He took one bite of his cheesecake and immediately noticed a strange flavour that wasn’t pleasing. Adding extra chocolate sauce to the bite of cheesecake made it more palatable and he was able to eat most of it. My dessert was ice cream you can’t go too wrong with that. It was delicious. End of the meal our extra dessert was brought to us at the table but no pasta and no bill to pay. So, we went to the counter to pay for our meal and I inquired about the pasta for me to take home. Our waitress went to the kitchen to inquire as to its whereabouts and apparently the kitchen staff had packed it up and put it in a Uber bag sent out with the delivery driver. Paid for a full pasta meal only to be able to have half of it. Our waitress was awesome and we did give a laugh about the whole experience but it has definitely put a stain on what once was a comfortable place for us to spend special moments. I wouldn’t recommend anyone putting their special moments in Bishop Bros....
Read moreBishop Brothers Public House an overall brilliant dining experiance with a few small hiccups.
We started with the Baked Ciabatta Loaf which was very heavy on the garlic in the best way possible.
The restaurant was clean and had a good atmosphere and the staff were absolutely delightful to deal with.
We ordered the Beef cheeks in a ragu which was pleasantly prepared with some of the most tender beef I have ever enjoyed and a hearty serving size.
The 300-gram Flintstone Ribeye – $35.00 was great value for money and cooked to a perfect medium rare. The guide in the menu detailing the temperatures and colour of the cooking range was a brilliant addition that helps eliminates any concerns of the steak not being cooked exactly how you like it. It was cooked perfectly with a warm red centre and the mushroom sauce that was paired with it was creamy and delicious. The duck fat smashed potatoes and the buttered vegetables were both some of the best I have had.
The shoestring fries that were listed on the menu unfortunately turned out to be steak cut fries and were so over seasoned they were unfortunately inedible.
We finished the night with a slice of passionfruit cheesecake which was sadly a huge let down. It appeared to have not been mixed properly as it was full of white lumps. It was so tangy and sour that we couldn’t even get halfway through it.
Despite the sour taste left in our mouths at the end of the meal it was not enough to ruin what had otherwise been an exquisite meal.
Overall, I would highly recommend a visit to...
Read morePretty decent place to eat at for the price for brunch. Walked in and the place was empty except for an older gentleman, we were asked if we had a booking and we said no. I guess that is a common thing here, no matter if the place is busy or not, or depending on the day, you make a booking.
Besides that the gal said no worries and seated us. We looked over the menu, the specials sounded good. But we went for the kiwi breakfast. 3-4 slices of lean bacon- was almost like thin slices of ham instead, a piece of hashbrown, a sausage- texture reminds me of a hot dog instead of sausage which is usually a little more course in texture, two eggs- fried, scrambled, or poached, and two small pieces of ciabatta that have garlic butter on them.
Pretty tasty, you could taste the vinegar used to poached the egg, I think quite a bit was used in the water. The hashbrown was crisp. The bacon was soft. The sausage was okay, only ate about half.
Hubby finished off all of his food. It was $31.80 for the two of us for brunch. Not bad. Service was really good. I wish I would have got the gal's name. Petite, mid height gal with dark hair, worked morning shift on Sunday. She came to check on us...
