Cheeky Sparrow — Restaurant in Christchurch

Arrived to a quiet cafe around 11am and the two servers behind the counter were chatting and washing dishes while my daughter waited patiently to be served. Eventually my daughter placed an order for a takeaway strawberry milkshake, and I placed an order for scones, not to be heated to takeaway.

The lady who took my daughters order whilst chatting away to her team member made up the shake and then left it on the machine stirring, and cleared of out the back. The male server quickly got my scone order together which then just meant my daughter was just waiting for her drink. We stood waiting a few more moments and the women didn’t come back. The male server eventually spotted the milkshake and finished making it and handed it my daughter along with a dirty straw. We weren’t impressed with the service since the staff have done this to us once before when we ordered two flat whites. They took ages to come out ( on a quiet day ) and when they did they were cold. On this day there was one girl working on the coffee machine and two other servers who were out the back chatting casually.

The fact that the servers were more interested in talking with each other or cleaning instead of serving the customers really shows how much they care for paying customers. Such a shame, if only the service was better then they would have a lot more customers. If the staff spent less time chatting and more time doing there job in relation to customer service then this establishment would actually really popular and far...

We took our order at the front counter by a young Asian lady. Two flat whites and a bacon spinach and cheese muffin the order was repeated back to us and she put the muffin into the microwave in front of us. We sat down and were brought two lattes by a different lady. We said we'd actually ordered 2 flat whites not lattes, but took them any way as we didnt want to wait longer. She asked us were we waiting for anything else and we said yes the muffin. I went up and also ordered a takeaway mocha for a friend. 20min had passed and I went up to the counter and asked if the coffee sitting on the counter for 8min was the mocha (no one called or brought it to us) to which they said yes. I asked where the muffin I ordered was and the lady who served us at the counter said what muffin I said the one you asked me I wanted heated and put in the microwave in front of us. Both her and a gentleman working there proceeded to open both microwaves where the muffin was sitting still and the Asian lady just laughed no apology no sorry for the mistake. Terrible service, inability to care for the customers. The Asian lady who served at the counter should be fired or advised on better hospitality adequate. They were not busy as well so I fail to understand any other person at fault. The muffin was the saving grace and was...

The coffee was nice. I like the vibe and décor plus the food looks great. The only part I didn't like was how obvious it was that the girl who served me didn't want to be there. For the 30 minutes I sat there for she didn't smile once, when I first walked in she didn't acknowledge me at all or say that she wouldn't be long or anything. To be fair she was the only one on so she was clearly trying to close alone (which I know from experience is hard) but it's still not to hard to be nice. There were also 5 customers waiting at the counter while she was out back doing dishes. For the most part, the issue is with the closing conditions but it still doesn't hurt to be nice and show a bit of passion for your job. Will not stop me coming here as it's still the best...
