Valentines Hornby — Restaurant in Christchurch

Hi, I took a party of 15 people there about two weeks ago. It was a Friday evening and the restaurant was only quarter full. I had been in a month before to make the reservation. At that stage I was asked who was paying. I told them me. A week before the reservation I returned to the restaurant to order a birthday cake. Once again they asked who was paying. The night of the dinner, I was a little late. We went into to room where we were seated. The tables weren’t setup for 15 guests so we had to rearrange the tables ourselves without any help from staff. Unfortunately the group was split into two because of where we were located. While talking to our guests they said that when they arrived who greeted by who was paying. So I went to reception and said I would like to pay for the dinner. To be greeted by. Oh you pay until the end of the night. Very poor communication. The variety of food was good but by no means hot. For me, it was a very disappointing night, considering how much they charge. I did contact the restaurant with my concerns but received no answer, so I contacted them again yesterday, but no response. How could anyone recommend a restaurant like this. This evening my son and I came in for dinner after what had been a very eventful day involving my son just a matter of hours earlier ending up at the drs for slicing his finger open.

From the moment we arrived we felt happy and welcomed. We’re promptly seated offered drinks and explained how things worked.

The food was simply divine. My son especially loved the pink panther drink and chocolate fountain.

It was so good to see the restaurant busy and full of happy people. The two waitstaff that we saw on were friendly polite and professional.

Regularly checking on us (without it being too regular) promptly clearly empty plates and glasses.

I would like to give special mention to the main staff member that seated and served us throughout the night, Briar, she was happy, smiling and just made us feel truly welcomed. From start to finish she was amazing and I couldn’t fault her service.

If tipping was a thing in New Zealand we definitely would have tipped her so instead we thought we would send a message to the owners.

So to Briar and all the amazing staff on this evening thank you for turning what had been a very scary rough day into something amazing.

It was the first time I had attended this restaurant with family and a friend from Western Australia. It was very disappointing as your meet and greet employee was not very friendly in nature considering your restaurant did not have a full house.

When I viewed your website from a recommendation I did not see any mention that one would need to purchase a coke cup to access the fanta drink. There were glasses on the table so we assumed that they were for us to use for the fanta that we assumed was free, alas they were not and that left us puzzled as non drinkers.

The food was also disappointing as the ham was very dry and there was no chicken but you did have a variety of food but some lacked flavour.

I understand that many establishments have Gaming Rooms but there has to be a limit when establishments are family orientated. I will not return again nor would I recommend to family and friends.
