Overall a nice restaurant, but had a few issues. Firstly, the placement of our two person table really didn’t create an amazing romantic experience. Our table was next to a pillar and in a walkway next to the bar. It’s a small restaurant, but realistically a table shouldn’t be placed there, as people were walking over us the whole time we were there and the pillar cuts someone off from the atmosphere of the restaurant.
Secondly, we paid $14 for a small bread roll size of garlic bread that was unfortunately undercooked in the middle and burnt on the outside. We were expecting garlic bread that would be better than the supermarket. We also felt rushed throughout our meal. We booked for 7pm and the waiter wanted us to order food and drinks within the first 5 minutes of being there. That’s usually not standard practice in a restaurant, as other places take your drink order first and give you time to look over the menu properly before coming back to take food orders. Given that we were there to celebrate an anniversary, we didn’t want to be out the door in 30 minutes and wanted to make a night of it. When we got our mains, they were super yummy so ended the night on a...
Read moreWhat an absolutely awesome time we had at Formaggio's. We decided to come here to celebrate my wife's 50th bday whilst on holiday in Christchurch. Plus the family was truly craving Italian. Well Formaggio's did not disappoint. We booked ahead which I encourage you to do. We arrived about 5 minutes ahead of our booking and were greeted with a smile, given menus and quickly offered cold still water. Bella, who was lovely, came and quickly took our drink orders and assisted with choosing the right wine while offering tasting of our choices. We made our decisions and she took our food order. We didn't wait long before our food came out piping hot and fresh. We ordered: spaghetti bolognese, gnocchi, lasagna, cannelloni. We ordered some garlic bread a bottle of Collesecco Italian Red Wine with our meals. I worked with Paige who pulled off a seamless suprise of Tiramisu to celebrate my wife's birthday. Overall an excellent experience. Food, drink, tastes, all TOP NOTCH. If you are looking to celebrate and event or just crave some Italian cuisine, come see Bella & Paige (and make a booking ahead of time) You and all of your guests will not be...
Read moreA very average and disappointing Saturday night after recommendations from a work colleague that it was their favourite restaurant! Starters Brochette and Sea food chowder both quite bland but OK, mains Spaghetti Roberto was tasty with a little sauce at bottom of dish however the Cannelloni with spinach and ricotta was dry and unappealing. Only a trace of ricotta run through spinach with no sauce to speak of and a pile of steamed and dry winter vegetables on top. The desserts where the nail in the coffin going for broke we tried the Sticky date pudding and Tiramisu. Both appeared to be off the shelf commercially produced desserts the slab of Tiramisu was merely a flavoured cream like imposter and more like an embarrassed trifle while the Sticky pudding was a gelatinous mass inside with a serving of mascarpone which had "chunks" of ginger in it in an attempt to jazz it up? Staff seemed non-fazed by half eaten dishes returning and when asked how was the meal while paying a half hearted "OK". Sorry Formaggio's but this could have been a Mall Food court effort not an Italian...
