With no information online about the beer tasting paddles (incl cost) and the menu omitting part of the Moon board info, I was advised to make a booking for a table after mentioning our intention through a few FB messages.
I cannot thank you enough for the recommendation to book a table as we would not have been able to enjoy ourselves as much as we did without a booking.
Having wanted to come here for some time (we live an hour out of town), Moon Under Water (as far as my extensive research allowed) is the ONLY place in Christchurch that offers beer tasting paddles, a cheese board AND board games to play.
The tasting paddles did not disappoint and the Moon board (see menu attached) was delicious. I would recommend avoiding the curry fries though if you have a sensitive stomach ;)
Being that it was my turn to plan our regular Date Night, I am so glad that we have finally managed to stop by and look forward to stopping by again soon.
Thank you. We were especially grateful to have one of the team move the people from our reserved table so we could enjoy ourselves fully. Our overall board games score was 5-3 to Natasha (which is rare).

Read moreThis place is just down the road from us and is always absolutely packed. We had a childfree afternoon on a Tuesday, so popped in for a drink to see what the hype is about. We liked that there are board games, heaps of drink options and a Wellingtonian vibe. With how close the pub is to ours, we also really wanted to love it. However, really odd customer service experience. After reading other reviews I feel bad for posting about this as it sounds like the owner is lovely when he's there, but it seems from description to be the same staff member missing the boat. When we went to order a drink I suggested my partner order the Chocolate Cake IPA (I think it was, something cake anyway) and my partner said, "no, that's gross" as he doesn't like cake. The guy behind the bar (thin, long hair, pale) said to himself under his breath, as he was pouring drinks, "like your face". Really odd, immature behaviour. I also overheard them complaining, in full ear shot of everyone inside, about a customer. Definitely not the way I acted when I was working in hospitality and I doubt the look the owner is going for when...
Read moreThis is one of my daughter's favourite places ..so we all met there for lunch ..and I can see why it's so popular! The food is amazing, and with some vegan & vegetarian options, which we appreciate. The selection of craft beers & gins is outstanding, and from the ones we've tried they taste wonderful! We're looking forward to making this a regular get~together so we can work our way through the drinks menu & try them all!! :) The service is fast & friendly, and the atmosphere is 'alive' and entertaining with all the different paraphernalia & emphasis on Frank Zappa on the walls and in the powder room. Plus, I just learned (from googling it) that the name is derived from a George Orwell essay ..so that makes the place even more interesting to me... Thanks 'Moon Under Water' for providing a tasty, fun & captivating watering hole...
