Oh, here we go again – yet another shop that used to be a true gem, filled with genuine and soulful food, only to be taken over by new owners who seem to have little regard for its essence. It's disheartening to witness a once-authentic place lose its charm and character in the hands of new management.
I couldn't help but feel disappointed when I visited Mythos, now seemingly run by Indians. While I appreciate cultural diversity and respect for different cuisines, it's hard not to question the authenticity of the experience when such a significant shift occurs. I have watched this occur throughout the city, and this will be no exception. Watch all of your loved foods taken over by greed. The heart and soul that used to be poured into the food seem to have vanished, replaced by what can only be described as a bland, mass-produced imitation of the original.
In the past, this place would fill your senses with the enticing aromas of carefully crafted dishes, made with love and passion. Now, it seems like any other generic souvlaki shop you can find around Christchurch, offering the same mediocre fare that lacks the distinctive flavours and care that once made it stand out.
Reading their Facebook page, the previous owners have attempted to guide the new ownership on how to deliver the flavours we loved, and the disregard from the new owners shows how much they care about the customer, and how much more they care about MONEY. I am also anticipating an influx of 5 star reviews from INDIANS.
For those who cherished the original shop's unique offerings, prepare to be let down by the transformation. Instead, you'll find yourself settling for a forgettable meal that fails to capture the essence of what once made this place extraordinary.
EDIT:
Your response is quite puzzling, to say the least. Firstly, to claim you remember every single customer's name seems a bit far-fetched, don't you think? It's clear that you're using baseless accusations to deflect from the legitimate concerns raised in my review.
Accusing someone of writing a "racist essay" without any basis is not only irresponsible but also a desperate attempt to divert attention from the issues at hand. My review was solely focused on the service and food quality, without any inappropriate language or content. Such baseless accusations only reflect poorly on your business and further support my review.
Now, let's address the most absurd claim you've made: that I'm an Uber Eats driver whose account got blocked because of your restaurant. This is not only false but also laughable. It's concerning that you'd resort to making such wild accusations. It shows how much of a lying and deceiving business you are running, what a disgrace.
The fact is, your response lacks any credible or factual basis. Instead of addressing legitimate customer feedback, you've chosen to engage in baseless allegations and name-calling. It's disappointing to see Mythos, a once-respected establishment, now tarnished by new lying, disgusting and deceiving owners, resort to such tactics.
I hope you reconsider your approach to customer feedback and focus on improving your service rather than making unfounded...
Read moreEDIT! (4 months later) So this place I think went under new management again? Somewhere in there it has been done over twice since the original owners left. Unfortunately, I have had to change my views on the shop. Portion size : Chicken is small-tiny pieces (good flavour) Felafel texture is cheap store bought and small portions cooked well. Bread is a smaller pita bread than usual but nicely toasted. You don’t get a lot of salad, but it is fresh. And I am very glad they bought back the options for sauces!
Compared to previous years for those who know, The LARGE souvlaki is now the size of a kids souvlaki-small. Huge change and a very sad a disappointing one at that because the price is just under 20 bucks.
Unfortunately I will not be going back anytime soon. Unless they bring back the portion size of something worth the money, or they lower the price to fit the lowering of their new food sizes.
People here are still very lovely though. Nice atmosphere and very clean.

Love this place 💜 I have been going here for a long time. And I am always happy with their food and service. It is under new management and the people are beautiful. Always smiling. Very welcoming 😊. Bread is warm and crisp. Chicken is fresh, juicy and full of flavour. Falafel is cooked perfectly, not dry, not soft and doughy like. Flavour is superb. Salad dressing is fresh and crisp as well. Salad and meat ratio is perfect! Both portions are huge too. Hummus, Tzatziki and hot chilli 👌🏾👌🏾 perfection.
I always get a med or Large Chicken/Falafel souvlaki. 🙏🏾👌🏾 totally recommend this little gem!
I will always come back here! Thank you to the old owners and...
Read moreEdited entry from my previous review 4 years ago when Denise and Vangelis had the store.
When the original Mythos crew sold the business and handed it over to the first new crew, I was very hesitant to try and hung back to see what reviews came through, and in all honesty I'm glad I did. It looked like a train wreck.
Fast forward to this year I was delighted to see some renewed activity online and the Mythos signage back on the storefront, and was pleasantly surprised when Raj reached out to the old customers to ask advice and take feedback on what we wanted!
I went in and tried my trusty old favourites (Lamb & Felafel combo), I would have rated it 5/10, but what kept me on was how Raj received the feedback I offered in good faith on how they could improve.
Coming back again for round two, and the difference was night and day. Lovely presentation, tasty tender meat and flavourful felafel, and the tzatziki was creamy and aromatic - a huge step in the right direction.
Raj and the team are trying hard to bring a quality product back to the market, and I reckon you should all give them...
