I LOVE this cafe. ❤️ Heaven on earth. 🌅 Service out of this world! 🌌
The peppermint flavor is so good. I've got to try their other favors. hot chocolate is amazing! My go to! The coffee is good too.
I love their pokemeow cards and other assorted goodies. They release limited edition t-shirts every birthday which is awesome!
The staff is out of this world. Each is a breath of fresh air. It's a great treat when they come in with your food and drink. They can often give you a cat's backstory or information about a new pets quirk. Susie was possessive of toys but favored this leather strap was HERS. Nobody knew where she found this strap either.
❗ Controversy❗ While you may have a cat these are NOT YOUR CATS! please remember you are a stranger to these cats who's doors are open to different people every single day! The cat cafe is THEIR home you are just a GUEST. ❌ picking up cats (unless they try escaping or eat / drink your food) ❌ no bothering them while their sleeping. ❌ no toys when they are clearly uninterested ❌ be considerate of others.
Kids I see a lot of 3,2,1 star reviews from parents. The cat cafe is a really relaxed experience but you gotta watch your kids! Perhaps pickles at home doesn't mind having toys dangled in its face when it's clearly uninterested but these cats your kids is a stranger too. You can't run around in here it's like a library inside voices. Part of being a parent is guiding them along into being excited but more in a appropriate way. Nobody wants your kid to get scratched or worse. If you can't police that leave them at home.
The café will do everything to protect all their kitties and you need to respect these rules or leave.
I've been going there for years and I've gently reminded that hey maybe not a jiggly toy it's movie night people are trying to watch it. They are NEVER RUDE. Their cats are their life. Respect it.
The no under 5 rules was much needed. I stopped going on weekends because of kids ruining it by picking up cats and parents chatting at tables instead. I'm so glad they are more comfortable setting their boundaries.
I wish Nate, Liz and the rest of the gang much love, wish and hope for...
Read moreCatnap Café brings a lot of joy to my life! When I visit, I like to take my laptop in to write or play a video game or do life admin. The team has put a lot of care into making the space calm, comfortable and clean (I've visited two other cat cafes elsewhere that have, unfortunately, had a smell, which I was going to say can't be helped with litter, but apparently it can, as Catnap has never had this issue over my years of visiting!).
I happily drink coffee after coffee, it's always served hot and delicious (you don't have to ask for extra hot water here!). The chai latte is my favourite in Ōtautahi. If you grab your morning coffee here, without a cat visit, you're still supporting cats to be looked after and find homes!
I'm a big fan of the Yoga with Cats sessions that take place in the cat area, making extra good use of the aforementioned calm, comfortable environment. It's a peaceful session and has the added bonus of appropriate enrichment for the cats. There's nothing quite like being in a pose, breathing in and out, eyes closed and relaxed, and feeling the soft fur of a curious cat brush by (maybe even a little "mrr?"). It's left up to the cats to find us entertaining and interesting, not the other way round.
I'm puzzled by reviews that the space isn't kid-friendly. I've seen parents/guardians and little ones sitting together, enjoying their drinks, speaking gently, and having great success being chosen by cats for interaction as a result. The space is kid-friendly, if parents/guardians and children are cat-friendly. That means respecting boundaries and consent. It's alarming that certain customers believe they're entitled to allow behaviour that causes stress to the cats. As a fully-grown adult, I was once asked to lower my volume, and staff were absolutely correct to do this! The rules are the same for all ages.
Ōtautahi is lucky to have the Catnap Café. Every cat who has lived there before being adopted is lucky to have had such a dedicated team making their home safe and sound.
For your visit, order many drinks (try the peppermint hot chocolate), sit back, and relax! Let yourself be chosen by a cat - it's a very...
Read moreWe were gifted vouchers for my son’s 6th birthday. I hesitated in writing this review really due to my gorgeous friend who gave us the vouchers seeing this review, however I also know that they would want other families to know of our experience.
We are a cat loving family. We currently have 2 cats. One is 22 years old and the other is 7 years old. Anyone who knows us, knows that we love and respect cats.
We went with friends and we were all excited to go.
When we got there my child was excited, which was to be expected. I had read the rules before we went and explained them to my child, who understood and is a good rule follower.
When we got to the counter my child was speaking loudly and animatedly at which point we were told that if they were like this when we went it we would have to leave. I explained that my child is autistic and was excited but that we had read the rules and that we had cats at home. I was told this was not our cats at home and then the rules were read to us, the same rules I had read through and agreed to when I had booked. It was also remarked when I said my child was autistic “that I suppose he can’t help that” referring to my child being animated.
To say we felt unwelcome from the start was an understatement.
We then went through to the cats. My child was being very good. He was respectful of the cats and was hoping to engage some of them.
The owner then came through and the atmosphere deteriorated as he started talking loudly about the cafe etc. He then told me that I had to be within arms reach of my child. At that point I knew it was time to leave, as my child had been extremely good and respectful and I realized that actually all children just aren’t welcome at the Catnap Cafe.
I genuinely feel sorry for the other employees who were lovely and seemed embarrassed, reasonably so of the owner’s behaviour.
I left here feeling extremely disappointed and I actually felt terrible and I apologized to my child.
I wouldn’t recommend this cafe to anyone with children or anyone who is...
