Terra Viva Cafe — Restaurant in Christchurch

Been here twice. Service and environment are both great. The place is spacious and kids friendly with kids menu integrated into a small activity booklet. The waitress brought it to us with crayons for the kids to color in.

Both times it took around 25 minutes for food to arrive, this was at busy hour during lunch.

The Terra viva wellington I had was good, though the thin sliced chips were not my favorite. Chunky chips from my kids plates were top notch on the other hand!

Two kids meals we had were toasty and popcorn chicken. The toasty was unfortunately a bit burnt for our liking, making the toasty difficulty to bite down on and slightly bitter. Popcorn chicken while fried really nicely, it lacked flavoring.

Having said that, they were really accommodating as I asked if the sweets in the kids menu could be swapped for something else, we were given more fruit and chips instead of marshmallows and jelly, this was really...

First time here. Had heard great things about this place. I went in and waited to be seated, this surprised me at a Cafe. Sat down and the waiting staff gave me a menu and said that she would be back to get my order. I waited a short while but I hadn't been able to view their cabinet food, I went and had a look. On the day there was not much that I felt like eating and pretty expensive. I ordered a simple poached eggs on toast and Chai latte. The food and drink didn't take long. The eggs were cooked exactly how I ordered them. The toast was cooked perfectly. The Chai was ordered extra hot, it was not. Good place to stop and get a sit down lunch. Good choice of seating, inside and outside. You can reserve seats and book for catering. ...

We went for lunch full of hope and expectation. The place looked nice, the menu inviting and the staff friendly and attentive. We ordered quickly and then waited, and waited, and waited, After over 45 minutes I asked our waiter what was happening. He came back to explain that they had a big table and that our order "might be ready in 6 or 7 minutes" - ie nearly an hour from it being placed. We decided to leave rather than have to eat our meal in a rush (we had another appointment but had left plenty of time for a "normal" lunch) Deeply disappointing - it would have been very easy for the waiter to have explained the issue when we ordered or during our long wait ... what a terrible waste of everyone's...
