I used to buy a takeaway pizza or pasta regularly at Tutto Bene, but haven't of late because I was going through cancer treatment. Today I was given my last treatment, so thought I'd cheer myself up with a pasta. I called by phone at 5.15pm and was told 20mins. (standard time) . I arrived within 10 mins and was expecting a wait. But, no it was already prepared, and waiting for me. Thought, 'that was quick'. I had paid and left by 5.27pm., less than 15mins from ordering. Didn't think much about it until I arrived home to share it with a friend. The pasta was dry and bacon hard, and it was stuck to the bottom of the try. This was not a freshly cooked pasta, it was like it was a leftover, heated up. It was hard and gluggy. We added about 300ml bottle of cream to it, to make it soft enough to eat, because it just wasn't convenient to be bothered returning with it. I did call and ask for the manager, but I don't think I was speaking with him. All the same, he just denied they would serve up food like that and basically didn't want to know. I said whatever the reason, that is what it was like, and he was quite happy to have just lost a customer. I did think it was a bit too quick to knock up a Carbonara and it was really not hot when I picked it up considering it had just been cooked. He denies it had only been heated, but everything pointed to just that. NOT EVEN A SORRY! - I WON'T BE BACK! - NOT BECAUSE OF A BAD MEAL, THAT HAPPENS, BUT ARROGANT ATTITUDE!
Manager now replies by saying SORRY - well too late. A more convivial attitude may have worked when I called by phone, because regardless of the time it was cooked, it still looked and tasted like yesterdays leftovers. But no, he dismissed my questioning the quality and didn't offer any solution, just total denial...
Read moreWe went here last night with my family plus my nephew down from Auckland. We ordered the Spaghetti Roberto, Carbonara, NZ pizza and lasagne with a garlic bread for the table. The service as per usual with excellent and our meals came very quickly which I always wonder if that’s a good thing or not?!? I found the garlic bread to be extremely salty and left my piece on my plate. The carbonara was nice and hot and tasty - I did the like the zucchini in it. That was different. Dad and my nephew really enjoyed their Spaghetti Roberto. Mom enjoyed her lasagne and there was so much of it she took the rest home. My husband had the pizza and wasn’t a great fan of it - he said he could get better at Hells pizza for less the cost. He has had it once before before covid and wanted to have it again to see if it had improved somewhat but it hasn’t. One thing I wanted to point out is the online menu is different to what you actually see at the restaurant and on that note, we chose Tutto Bene again for the fact it had steak on the online menu thinking we could get that but were given a menu without it. I did ask the staff member but weren’t given a definitive answer as to why it wasn’t on the menu. That was disappointing. Maybe on the online menu it should actually mention that the online menu is different to the in-house menu. Maybe it does and I did search for something that said that but couldn’t find anything. All in all, I really don’t think the prices reflect the hype. I wouldn’t go back by my own choice. We paid $71.00 for the carbonara and pizza and garlic bread. Using the online menu this didn’t add to $71.00 so that may need...
Read moreI was a bit surprised. Every time we make the trip to Christchurch we come to Tutto Bene for at least one meal (sometimes two or three visits depending on how long we stay). We arrived at 19:10 Saturday night for the 19:15 reservation. The person that greeted us did not show the reservation. I had received the telephone call on Wednesday about the double booking (I'd discovered that the first one wasn't done on your website, so I tried to cancel it and made a reservation on your website.) The telephone call was about the double booking and it was sorted by the gentleman that called me. On Friday, I received an email asking me to confirm the reservation and I responded. I made a screenshot of the confirmation, and when the greeter couldn't find the reservation and I showed her the confirmation, she said "we can seat you out there" (in the entry section). We've been seated in that area a couple of times when we came without a reservation and we prefer the main dining room. I declined being seated out in the entry and the server spoke to someone and seated us in the dining room. The meal was excellent as always. The bottle of wine we ordered was one that we've had often when we come (San Lorenzo, Umani Ronchi) and that we often have at home. The service is always excellent, and we love the atmosphere in the dining room. Almost every visit we are greeted by a gentleman we believe is probably the owner - He often will deliver things to the table and ask about our needs. EVERY time we come to Christchurch from the West Coast we will come of at...
