Kabana Indian Cuisine — Restaurant in Devonport-Takapuna

This is our regular Indian restaurant to eat with our friends but not any more the service and meal tonight the worst I’d ever had and the response from the staff unbelievable ! 4 of us ordered. I ordered mild Tikka masala goat meat, with cheese naan and mango lasse.

I got medium dish of bones with little meat even the sauce was poor with onion and capscium uncooked and large slices. My mouth was on fire. Thank goodness I had the Lasse.

The goat curry was more expensive than other meats. There was no indication on menu it was on the bone and the waiter said nothing. I would not have had it if I had known.

When it came to the table I noticed it had a large storage looking something in it I asked the waiter what it was as none of us knew. He just said give it to me. I asked what it was as I poked it he said meat I tried to cut it and said this is not meat and then he told me the truth he said it was fat !, he took the piece away on his hand. I looked forward to the rest of the meal, unfortunately not to be there was a hot sauce full of bones with very little meat. I wish I had photographed it. Even the rest of the table tasted it and said it was hotter than theirs and one had medium spice. They also could not believe the amount of bones some so small I almost swallowed them. The waiter came to collect the plates and asked about the meal I informed him of my displeasure and why. All he said was I’ll have to make it better next time. He asked how the Lasse was I said fine.

When we came to pay I asked what the chef had said he just said we will have to have a word with our suppliers. There was no apology for the awful meal or even an offer of any discount or have the Lasse on us or the like.

Did they care if I enjoyed it or not NO. Not Interested and could not care less attitude. My advice plenty of nice curry houses GO find one that does care about how their food tastes and is served and have some kind of pleasant customer service. We as regulars will not be again we will find some where that values our custom. I’m now put off of curry. Expensive for bad food.and don’t care attitude. I fell in love with Kabana after I had my first home delivery just a few days ago and left 5 stars on menulog as I had one of the best chicken Kormas and that is why I ordered again tonight when I came home hungry. I needed something good to eat. I ordered chicken Saag and naan bread and while the naan bread was okay the chicken saag was perhaps the worst curry I have ever had and all I could taste was salt! the chef must have made a mistake and poured a lot of salt and it was absolutely disgusting and a punishment for me to eat this but because I was hungry and 9 pm, I had no other option. I really wonder how they don’t do a quality check before sending the food. I don’t know if I will have the courage to order again if they are not consistent with the quality and tonight’s food was not only bad but...

Okay....... soooo I should have read the other reviews.... like the other fella..... mine took two hours to deliver when ordering through the website.... when I rang (I thought they advised that next time I should order through menulog. Can't be sure though as it was a bad line at their end) no apologies or explanation told it would be another half an hour...... I was lucky though.... my food arrived hot.....

Good points: Butter beef was tender; the chips were still crispy and very morish; the garlic naan nicely decorated and very soft.

Would I recommend this place? Assuming you go in person..... yeah.... Its okay..... Not mind blowing good............. Would I go back?....... Maybe...............
