Wacko Burger Bar — Restaurant in Hamilton

UPDATE (04.03.25)

Sadly not what they used to be. Still delicious, but just not the standards that they used to be. Fried foods are soft and not very crunchy. "Real" Paua fritter texture has changed greatly and seems almost "watered down".

The Snapper burger although still tasty, was slightly soggy, noticably smaller and the fish was not crispy at all. This may be due to us ordering via Uber eats. So we will be back, but in store next time to see if it's better fresh from the store. Hopefully this was a one off experience, as Wacko has always been a favourite of ours.

Went in tonight (Thursday 25/08/22) for dinner.

We got Snapper burgers, milkshakes, REAL Paua Fritter, chips and a curry roll for the 3 of us (we were VERY hungry)

And I've gotta say, I've not had a better Milkshake ANYWHERE. They were spectacular. The Paua was to die for and the Snapper burger truly lives upto the hype and the expectation. Their Fish burger (Hōkī) was recently made famous by Insta, TikTok and FB reels by Nick and Lily Cannon, and I have to say, it's definitely worth the hype.

The former owners had major respect for their customers and wanted to make sure everyone walked away happy - which was 100% of the time! They spent months training the new owners (they didn’t have to, but that’s how much they cared for them) and yet they’ve had it chucked in their face. Cheaply done expensive rubbish now. Literally gross. You can tell they’re using the cheapest of everything. Hopefully they sort themselves out, cos it’s actually insulting to the former owners who had built their reputation over 20 years! You’d have to be very hungry...

Very disappointed in the new owners tonight! Charging the same price but downgrading the cheeseburger! Their cheeseburger was always my go to before the new owners and it was big and saucy! Now being the same price still, near to no sauce at all, a teaspoon of grated carrot if that! Its all half slapped on, and it's tiny and light weight! Wackos were well known for their burgers and now they've lost a customer. Keeping the expensive price and downgrading the burgers. What a joke!!! Rather have spent my money at Macdonalds...
