The Great Chilli Indian Restaurant & Takeaway Havelock North — Restaurant in Hawke's Bay

I had absolutely raved about this restaurant in the past. It had been my number one indian restaurant in the bay (And one of my all time favourite restaurants over-all).

Unfortunately it appears that the restaurant has changed hands, or had a big staffing changeup at the very least.

What that meant is that last nights meal was a mere shadow of previous meals.

The flavours of the Chicken on the "Platter for 2" starter have changed. The delicious yellow mustard chicken is now green and acrid. The hot plate wasn't sizzling either so the food came to us luke warm, and the Samosa tasted old, as though batch frozen and warmed up well past it's best-by.

The butter chicken itself was Okay, but not nearly as good as previously, and for the price I'd expect it to be much better. It was also barely warm.

The take-away I can give from this is that the food is what you'd expect from a cheap Indian restaurant, but they're charging a premium. For $75 excluding drinks I'd expect a higher quality for my wife and I. Sadly I won't be returning to my once...

A wonderful quaint Indian restaurant serving DEVINE Indian cuisine. Service was intimate polite even after hours. We arrived in Hastings on a late flight we asked Google for recommendations Google came up with a few choices but at 3 kitchens are closed. The 4th choice door sign said open but you could see they were about to close. We asked are you still open. He asked what would you like We said we were looking for dinner he said take a seat I will open the kitchen . This is my favourite Indian restaurant both for take aways and eating in. Extensive menu including dosa and street food dishes, amazing breads and desserts. Tonight I ordered paneer tikka masala (hot) and butter chicken and it was the best meal I have had in a long time. Naan bread had been included and was so soft and delicious. Excellent level of spice in the hot vegetarian dish and a wonderfully flavourful butter chicken. Can’t recommend The Great Chilli and it’s chef enough. Definitely worth...
