After slaving away at the grind, I made a quick escape from Kirikiriroa on Friday for a spontaneous night of karaoke and potential regrets. By Saturday, I found myself longing for that special something to satisfy my needs. Enter Chunky Chook, Te Atatu. I've had my fair share of shameful morning munchies, but this time, I experienced true tenderness, at a refined facility that met ALL my needs.
The decor at Chunky Chook was both tidy and convenient, a reassuring oasis for my weary soul. The use of technology and tasteful menu designs made me feel like I might just survive another day. With a ravenous hunger, I ordered the lunch box, an egg burger, and a Green V to match my socks. Happily strutting home like a house cat after a hunt, I was ready to devour my loot.
Firstly, if value is what you're after, then Chunky Chook deserves a solid five stars. Despite my overconfidence in my well-honed eating abilities, I couldn't finish everything. And believe me, I tried. The chicken was perfectly cooked, and after a careful nibble, I quickly realized a paper towel was necessary before I lost control. The batter was skillfully executed, with a well-balanced flavor that would appeal to most. It left me wondering what this culinary artist could do for those daring enough to burn their insides with spice, fully submitting to the wrath of a prescription level of capsaicin.
The egg burger was decent, satisfying with fresh ingredients and tender care in its crafting.
To put it bluntly, if you're looking for something to cure your bad choices, visit Chunky Chook. If your partner is moody and asserts that everything is fine, grab a chicken box and wait for their food coma. It provided me the nutrients to continue living and likely reduced the chance of an accident after my own regenerative coma.
This will become a regular destination for me, and it's fortunate that I can stop by and see family while I am visiting Auckland for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWeāve made it a bit of a tradition to visit Chunky Chook weekly or at least fortnightly. Itās truly become our go-to comfort food spot. Their fried chicken is the ultimate treat: super juicy on the inside and perfectly crispy on the outside. It reminds us so much of Jollibeeās Chicken Joy, which is why weāve been raving about it to our fellow Filipinos who are missing that nostalgic flavour from home.
What makes the experience even better is the warm hospitality. The owner, is hands-down one of the friendliest people weāve come across. Heās always so pleasant, welcoming, and genuinely kind. You can tell he really cares about his customers.
Our favourite combo is the Dinner Meal (fried chicken with rice and mayo). If youāre craving a taste of home or just love properly done fried chicken, Chunky Chook is an...

I was very well welcomed by the guy at the counter who explained me things, asked and gave suggestions. Got a special with chicken and fries, karage and a cheese burguer.
Short after I ordered, people were queuing to order which seems have a decent amount of customers (made me think food was good).
Opened up at home and burguers were so tasty. Fries and chicken on spot. It was delicious. I will def come back. 100%...
