I was turned away from the register at 3pm quite abruptly due to the cafe closing for the day. So I decided to order a pastry to go... I can understand the importance of cleaning the coffee machine at the end of the day and the struggles of accommodating late coffee orders. I had found a spot to sit and eat outside of their premises to ensure I don't get in their way. 10 past 3 I'm met with a group being served coffee, very confusing as I had assumed they had already closed the coffee machine. I pop back inside to inquire as I would have liked a coffee too. I ask the manager directly why this had happened and she told me that said customer was "smart about it" and "ordered at 2:59" How this group of people had arrived after me but ordered before me is a mystery. The manager, then told me "you ordered at 3:03pm so you weren't smart about it" The choice of words and lack of understanding caused me to cry, so I then walked away... It blew me away that a manager would speak to their customers this way in front of their employees. I feel the way this establishment handles their boundaries around closing time was unprofessional and left me feeling deeply mistreated. I now know that I was not turned away because the coffee machine was closed, but because "they didn't want to serve me". Please treat your customers better. Such a beautiful atmosphere and tasty food, it really was quite a...
Read morePoor service & got order wrong
Edit: I emailed more details to hello@dailybread.co.nz a couple of days ago but didn't hear anything back. I said in the email: My mother, brother & son took me to the cafe which is in Kings plant barn Botany. I had never been there before but they all had quite a few times. We went on Sun 13th Oct 2024 about 11:15 am. We had to order from the counter because there was no table service. My son & I didn't want gluten, so my son (who ordered for me) asked if we could get eggs bene (salmon) but without the bread. They asked the chef and came back and said yes but there's no salmon (they had ran out), but we could get it with a hash brown, spinach, tomatoes & mushrooms, but with no bread. It came with two thick pieces of bread which I couldn't eat, and no mushrooms. The tomatoes were burnt. I could only eat the eggs & spinach from the meal. Both my meal and my son's meal were the same, even though we asked for no bread. We were disappointed that there was no salmon, but even more disappointed the order came wrong. My mother & brother said their meals were substandard compared to usual, and they thought maybe management had changed. They all have been quite a few times, but they said they won't be coming back (and neither will...
Read moreI visited the cafe last Sunday morning and ordered a breakfast bun, a ham and cheese croissant, and two coffees. I was surprised to discover that the breakfast bun, which only contained an egg and hash brown, was priced at $17. It seemed quite expensive for such a simple item. While the ham and cheese croissant was priced at $8, it wasn't heated properly and ended up being soggy.
Regarding the coffee, it was disappointing. The barista seemed too busy and didn’t care about quality, and the coffee tasted burnt and bitter, indicating that the beans were not properly dialed in. Despite bringing this to the barista's attention and receiving a replacement cup, the quality did not improve. Ultimately, we left without finishing our coffee.
I hope the cafe management will consider hiring baristas who are passionate about coffee and committed to maintaining its quality, as good coffee is often what brings customers back. It would greatly enhance the overall experience...
