Walked up to door with my pooch Samoyed and was told no dogs welcome. They have an outdoor area... get with times people, you'll continue to lose more business than you gain by adopting a no dog stance 😒
UPDATE FROM RECEIVING REPLY BELOW.
I ignored no such sign, I stayed back from the venue's clearly dogs stay out sign. This is dramatised out of annoyance I'd envisage.
My reaction (which they've left broad for good reason as sounds more dramatic) was simply, "do you not like dogs?" They replied "We can't have dogs here as you'd have to walk through". I left after but wondered if they simply don't want to provision for our furry friends as I guess they could open up courtyard with a door, doors can be made.. not sure though didn't see actual area
Boasting about revenue up since segregating dogs is really clever. You'll only put off more dog lovers and there's more and more of us, like there never was. About as clever as their decision, and unless it's wage subsidies, I'm not buying their revenue is up; perhaps people that visit though may take exception if they feel its overpriced already.
FURTHER UPDATE FROM A CONFUSING RESPONSE:
Update after receiving update from Mr. Rod : You ignored the sign. I nearly stepped in. RESPONSE: Nope, sounds good as you write it perhaps. If only it were true. We came to the entrance. Never stepped a foot inside. There was a look of disgust present, why would I? My dog is friendly and wanted to come in to say hello, blissful ignorance his part, less the blissful your end.
You started the drama. RESPONSE: Another broad statement, as with many tall stories (research it 😉). I loaded a review based on the attitude of disgust just because I politely came and made sure there were no dogs allowed out back (ie if there was a difference entrance) or if the sign was all catching. If you perhaps apologised about your own ill treatment of making me feel unwelcome in a kind way, rather than (as above) the disgust a dog was anywhere near your door way (not past) I would have happily pulled down the adverse review.
We can't have dogs on our premise. Period. RESPONSE: Roger that. Loud and clear. Never did, never will. You have my word.
It is not your business how I run my businesses for the last 21 years in Marlborough. Mind your own business please. RESPONSE: In fact it is. Your business chose to be rude and also by discriminating against dogs, its relevant to my complaint. Although like you say, and boast about, you're creaming it.
Subsidy + overpriced : Please read number 4 again and again and again. It is simply not your business. BTW : Subsidy started in 2020. And I started this policy in 2013. Ability to read and understand can be of an advantage. RESPONSE: Not sure about the policy part but in any event, read 4 again. I do understand. From "Mr Rod" 🙄 I would have thought given my last name has German roots we would get this around the right way, attention to detail is a theme.
Take care. RESPONSE: Disingenuous,...

Just to complement, as the lazy Guy who treated us bad was also a lyer at his answer. You should be humble and try to improve instead of arguing. We are costumers!!! We said hello, yes, smiled and asked How you were doing that day. You said that was gonna bring the menu and you didn't. Instead, you kept serving the table next to us that arrived after we did. You should learn How to behave to deliver a good service, cause the food is a Lost cause. Awfull schnitzel that was not made that day, microwaved, greasy, not creaspy or crunch at all. Accept that And improve.
It's a bit hard to rate. Great place to drink, but don't expect amazing food. The choice and variety of drinks was amazing. The staff was great. I'd give 5 stars for both. Unfortunately the food was not so great. Meat and salads were dry and the cheese platter rather basic, felt like they were just from the supermarket. I'd give food only 2 stars.
To the owner: I find it a bit creepy that you felt the need to add something in Russian for me.
1 Unless you remember us how would you know I'm Russian? Did you google who I am? That's really a strange and creepy thing to do to answer a review.
No need to be passive aggressive and call me a keyboard warrior and to do my research. My research consisted of me visiting your place and trying the food and drinks. And I'm sorry, but I did not like it. My salmon was dry and fishy and the salad was dry and had huge chunks and what felt like a basic out of the jar sweet chilli sauce.
I still gave you 4 stars because the drinks selection was great. You do have a wonderful place. And I understand that taking criticism might be hard, but perhaps, instead of spending your energy on arguing with people over their reviews, maybe it pays to listen to your customers?
If the food that was served to us was better, you'd get my...
