Mac's Fresh Fish & Chips Masterton — Restaurant in Masterton

Amazing to have 5 types of fish on offer. Was pretty good but I was expecting better from an award winner and it could have been better. Fish was fresh n tasty but a bit over firm. I appreciate Warehou is a nice meaty fish but this was a bit chewy. Should have put chips in a separate tray as the steaming fish laid on top of the chips made them go soggy by the time I got them home. Hope for better next time.

However a visit just today left me delighted as the fish (Warehou) was fresh tasting, very nicely battered and cooked beautifully. The kids are the harshest fish n chips critics and they Wolfed it 😋. Took my own advice to have the fish n chips wrapped separately and that made a big difference. Still think the chips could be better though. Perhaps a change in supplier is needed. Well done on the big improvement. Again amazing selection of fish including Hoki, Warehou, Terakihi, Blue Cod and even Snapper! Well done...

I had above average expectations for this takeaway after having been told it was one of the best in Masterton yet upon eating the meal I feel my expectations were not met. I ordered 4x Hoki fish, 2x scoops chips, 2x hotdogs and 3x cinnamon donuts. Firstly the cost of this was a bit steep at $32 and then I discovered the chips were undercooked and not very crisp. The hotdogs were red savloys and not sausages as you would expect although the kids didn't seem to mind that at all. The fish were good sized and the batter was tasty and crisp across all items. Don't let too many low reviews here put you off, I'm glad I gave it a go.

If you've ever attempted smorgasbord at the dogs breakfast that is "Mr chips" you'd imagine that I'd almost given up on finding a decent one in masterton.

I arrived here around quarter to 7, the smorgasbord had obviously had a thorough go through prior to my arrival but what was left i managed to compose a decent feed from.

Pleasantly suprised, Great fried rice, sweet and sour pork and dumplings. Not much beef & black bean left but what i did have was tasty.

I'll try again earlier in the evening next time.

Side note I found their service great, friendly and straight to the point.
