Breakers Taradale — Restaurant in Napier

We were extremely disappointed with our experience this week Initially it was pleasing to see some items on the menu marked as LG (low gluten) as we have several family members requiring gluten free or low gluten food. We thought it was responsible of Breakers to indicate as LG and the menu suggested asking for further information if required. Upon asking we realised that the staff (including the chef) were uneducated on matters regarding gluten intolerances. Several items were questioned but the worst answer concerned quesadilla, which was indicated on the menu as LG. They are made from wheat flour, containing high level of gluten!! The staff informed us that the sour cream was the ingredient containing low levels of gluten. This is highly irresponsible. You obviously have no training or knowledge about how dangerous it is for some people to eat gluten.

On top of that we had been attracted to your restaurant for a 5 year olds birthday party because on Monday and Tuesdays children eat free. Fine print said with each main meal purchased a child could eat free. Our party consisted of 7 adults and 5 children. One adult who is highly allergic to gluten could not order from the main menu as it was too risky. This meant 6 adults purchased main meals yet only 2 children's meals were given free. How does that work?

The children's meals were great but the adults who ordered burgers were highly disappointed with the kids sized meals they received for double the price of kids ones.

We were told that the one loyalty card our party had was good to cover the whole party but there was no benefit in setting up a tab with the card as payment was made difficult and we had to work out our own payments and pay back the person who forked out for the total bill.

We certainly will not...

I recently dined at Breakers Taradale and overall, my experience was a mixed bag. The standout part of my meal was undoubtedly the steak - it was cooked to perfection and full of flavor. Complemented by a generous portion of well-seasoned chips, the main course was definitely a hit.

However, I must say that the service was just okay. While the servers were friendly, they seemed a bit unorganized and inattentive at times. It took quite a while for our order to be taken, and even longer for the food to arrive. Although the staff did their best to rectify any issues, the overall service was not up to par.

One aspect that was a letdown was the atmosphere of the restaurant. The interior decor seemed outdated and lackluster, providing a rather uninviting ambiance. The lighting was too dim, giving the place a gloomy feel, and the noise level was quite high, making it difficult to have a conversation without raising our voices.

Despite the drawbacks of the service and atmosphere, I must emphasize that the quality of the food made up for these shortcomings. The delicious steak and perfectly cooked chips certainly left a positive impression, and for that reason alone, I would consider returning.

In conclusion, Breakers Taradale offered a mixed dining experience. While the food, particularly the steak and chips, was exceptional, the service was lackluster and the atmosphere left much to be desired. If you prioritize a great culinary experience over ambiance and service, this restaurant might still be...

Hands down THE WORST dining experience I have EVER had. Let's count the ways:

1. We were overcharged 32 dollars which I suspect the server knew as she 'suddenly' remembered as soon as we arrived at the bar to query the issue.
2. NONE of our party were made aware there was a steak meal promotion happening. I realised at the last minute and changed my order to a scotch fillet meal however one of our party who had also ordered steak 5 mins earlier wanted to amend his order to include the promotion. He was told the terms and conditions do not allow him to do so?! 3)My medium rare steak came out RAW (no kidding- sealed on each side but still pretty much living and breathing). I approached the waitress who apologised and took the steak back into the kitchen. 4)The steak came back a second time RARE @ best
3. When the steak was again returned they offered another steak (if you can't get ONE steak right twice over I sure as hell don't want another!!!) We were then offered a refund.
4. The offer of the refund was revoked upon the grounds that BREAKERS Taradale have a "replace not refund" policy!! Im sorry- so you offer me a dirt poor quality product/service that I pay for and then you refuse my right to a refund and offer me more dirt poor quality product/service?! I am instead offered a free $12 dessert (my meal was to the value of $32). I have a mind to speak to the franchise manager/ health and safety officers!! That place is a lost cause. Yuck...
