Courtyard on Margaret — Restaurant in North Island

After reading the reviews I realised I shld have read before going... I find a restaurant that only has 2 meat mains and fish and chips, to state the pork belly is not available after you have already bought a couple of pre dinner drinks, not good enough. And to read its been happening a lot over the last two weeks is worrying.... So we went with the steaks. Sadly they were both overcooked - and not very enjoyable. The potato element was so overcooked you could not even cut them. The menu said vegetables - but it was only some brocolini. We moved onto dessert and ordered the creme brulee. The brulee came with biscotti - but it was like stale bread and not nice. The staff were very good and friendly so sad they had to apologise for the food. We received a $20 vchr off the next meal. I just hope when we go back they make sure what they advertise on their menu is what they have and a chef that can cook it. The fact that others have reviewed also that they say they don't have the main available proves it's not a case of just running out..... At last this little hidden gem, in the heart of Raumati Beach village, has the management it deserves. We dined in Thursday evening: the place was packed and buzzing. Staff were not phased by the large amount of clients on two tables. Service stood out as of a very high standard with staff being knowledgeable and enthusiastic about what was on. offer. It is always interesting watching what other people offer and seeing how it was presented. (I definitely will opt for fish and chips next time, it looked amazing) It was a great dining out experience and our food was delicious. I got the distinct impression if something had not been right about the food, staff would have rectified that without fuss or drama. As for price; I thought it was good value. Great location in the Raumati beach village. Sadly the food was truly disappointing, both hubby and I ordered steaks which were extremely tough. Young waitress paid attention to people she knew and neglected to serve others. We asked her to inform management / chef about our inedible steaks but don’t believe she did so. The restaurant was extremely smoky so guessing there is a kitchen vent issue. Great wine / beer selection but like the food it was extremely pricey...
