Look, I don’t say this lightly—but the Classic Eggs Benedict at Frank’s in Ohakune might just be the unofficial reason I’d move to the central North Island. Yes, the mountains are nice. Yes, the scenery is beautiful. But have you had the hollandaise?

Let’s break it down: Two perfectly poached eggs perched like royalty on toasted English muffins, with crispy streaky bacon doing its best to outshine everything else on the plate (spoiler: it almost does). The eggs? Absolute yolky perfection—poke them and they spill like sunshine. Not in a weird way. In a poetic, life-affirming way.

And then there’s the hollandaise. Oh baby. It’s smooth, buttery, and just tart enough to let you know it means business. This isn’t your packet-mix, reconstituted, sadness-sauce. This is the real deal. You taste it and suddenly want to call your mum and tell her everything’s going to be okay.

Presentation-wise, it’s that sweet spot between “gourmet café” and “this could survive a hangover.” Clean plate, fresh herbs, and a little drizzle of sauce that says, “Yes, I’m classy—but also comforting.”

Pair it with their coffee (which is strong enough to resurrect the dead) and you’ve got yourself the breakfast of champions. Or at least of people pretending to be active in Ohakune before heading to the hot pools.

Was fortunate enough find this absolute gem after a long day up on the mountain! With no plans for tea I popped in to check out their dinner menu! A good selection of burgers, salads and meals. I tried the Aribiata and it was devine! The perfect amount of spice for me and a nice bit of a kick after a long day! Also decided to treat myself to a couple of cocktails that truly hit the spot and then to top it off the most delicious and well balanced sticky toffee pudding I've ever had the fortune to try! Will definitely be back and am looking forward to trying the Chicken Cacciatore next time! Outstanding work to everyone who made it such an amazing night! Thank you...
