I have only visited Kawakawa Cafe twice, but will certainly be returning. We enjoyed their delicious savoury scones and really good coffee. Kawakawa is medium sized, relatively new and has a nice vibe to relax in. The cafe was purpose designed as part of a recently built apartment complex, Salt, situated near the beach, Bayfair shopping center and Baywave pool complex. The service is pleasant and matched with good coffee and a delicious selection of counter goodies. I haven't eaten from the menu, but friends have commented that the meals are excellent. The cafe is north facing allowing plenty of light and warmth from the sun plus a few tables are out on the small terrace outside. There is parking available adjacent to the cafe and the entrance ramp allows access for people with mobility requirements. Very clean restrooms including a disability option. I noticed Kawakawa Cafe is popular with recreational bikers which is always a good sign. Covid restrictions were in place so social distancing had blocked out some of the seating. Nevertheless, it didn't alter the nice relaxing time we had. Kawakawa Cafe is a great place to meet friends for a catch-up over brunch or...

Neat cafe in a very handy location! It is located only 5 minute walk from Bayfair shops. It’s very easy to find. There’s also a carpark for visitors - but limited space. I didn’t mind walking from Bayfair shops.

There are seats indoor and outdoor. Inside gives a warm feel and it’s spacious. Because it’s quiet, you can have a chat without having to speak up.

The staff were kind and service was prompt. I was surprised by the portions. It’s very generous and tastes good also. We ordered lemon miso mushroom and avocado on toast. I’d recommend adding an egg to these menus.

Coffee was nice. Berry smoothie was decent also.

I’ll definitely be back to try some other menus. Would recommend to anyone living...

As we're staying at a motel nearby, we thought we would grab a coffee and go for a lovely morning stroll. The cafƩ looked nice, but when we got our drinks we were very disappointed. My mocha was bland, with no hints of coffee or chocolate, it was simply a warm drink. My husband's chai latte was worse! There were lumps of cinnamon and no other flavouring, easily the worst chai latte either of us have ever tasted! So bad, we tipped it out and got a better one from the Caltex further down the road. Very...

Hekia Parata! Cherie Montgomerie’s review nailed it: It has been a long time since we have tasted food like this. Since China actually. 2019. Food so fresh and crisp and complimentary that you swear that is THE best mushroom you’ve ever tasted. Or THE freshest ginger….you get the idea… We’re stoked. New local. And by the looks of the menu (see pic attached), there’s plenty more to try…. The ā€œwinter warmerā€ lemon/honey/ginger. Try it. Havana coffee of course. The best. See you next time šŸ˜‰

The scrambled egg, avocado, bacon and toast was really nice in the Kawakawa breakfast. However the the potatoe rosti was very average and looked more like mashed potato. The cabinet food didn't look very fresh and we got two bacon and egg pies at $12 each which were very small and quite disappointing. The French toast was by far the best dish on our table. The atmosphere was nice, and it was good that we could sit half indoors and half outside with the sun. They played good music too.
