Olympic Cafe — Restaurant in North Island

I don't usually post bad reviews but given the poor response we got, I think it is important for people to get some negative perspective on a restaurant.

We stopped in Ngatea to stretch our legs on the way to Tauranga. We visited this cafe because it looked clean and had a good display of sandwiches and pies. Myself and my partner bought a ham and salad pie each, and my friend bought an egg sandwich. I have never tasted a sandwich this salty in my lifetime. One bite into the sandwich and it felt like my tongue was dunked inside a large bowl of table salt. I picked out the ham initially but the remainder of the sandwich was still too salty for me to finish. The others also could not finish their first bite due to the saltiness. We asked for some tap water but the cafe owner asked us to pay for it and ignored our feedback for the saltiness of the food.

I would probably not eat their sandwiches if you want to have good kidneys. With the amount of salt in the first bite, had I finished the whole sandwich, I probably needed admission for haemodialysis back...

Hi Guys, today we visit olympic cafe in Ngatea, in waikato region. we bought 2 pies from this small bakery.

🥧Lamb and Mint Some pieces of lamb inside the pie but a bit dry and not juicy, Dark brown Gravy with a hint of taste of mint, possibly from dry mint powder or mint pasta. overall the pie is not too impressed and the gravy is too thick. feel a bit heavy and rich after finish a pie

🥧 Seafood Pie This pie Generously packed with mussels, shrimps and scallops inside the pies. The creamy gravy brings out the seafood flavour.

overall, those pies taste just above average, hence i rate it...

Called in on way up to Tutukaka on Waitaingi Day with family. First impressions very spacious cafe with a large selection of honest kiwi food.gorgeous pies and pastyies, sandwiches and filled rolls and of course cakes and cookies as well. They also had an extensive menu which we only glanced at as we were mainly in for coffee and a quick snack.the coffee was delicious as was the large milkshake and the lady owner who served was very friendly and genuine.

We will come back next time in the area indeed. A definite must stop if you enjoy great food and great...
