Thai Country Chef — Restaurant in North Island

I feel really saddened to give this review to be honest. I felt like these guys were really struggling to make ends meet, and they're trying their best. Sadly though, when I walk into a restaurant and pray I don't get sick, that's saying something. Unfortunately my hubby and I were too polite to walk out once we had sat down. Where do I start?....The floors felt like they've never been cleaned, my shoes stuck to it with every step. The tables were exactly the same, and so was the plates and placemats that were on the table 🤦‍♀️ Thankfully you don't need to eat off those plates! The menu wasn't extensive but that was ok. After my first impressions, I decided it would be safest to go with beef or lamb, so I chose satay lamb for my main and curry puffs (gari puff) for entree. They don't offer any drinks there at all. My "curry puffs" were what I could only assume was your typical store brought samosas in a box! But it was a generous serving lol. My main...I'm a foodie, but I left it. I only ate some of the rice. My so called lamb, was off cuts of gristle!! Not a single, tender piece of actual lamb in my meal at all. It was so disappointing and not at ALL what I expected. So sadly I would never recommend this place for it's food but the two guys were lovely and they tried.

Odered Pad Thai, Beef Massaman, and mixed entrees. -Pad Thai: not good. At all. -Beef Massaman: wasn't asked spice preference, and the whole thing tasted overwhelmingly of pepper. But not the worst massaman I've had. The rice, however, was awful. Water-logged, maybe? It was basically a pile of mush. -Mixed entrees: looked and tasted like supermarket freezer spring rolls and samosas. To be honest the place isn’t bad but I caught one of the guys MICROWAVE the rice we ordered. The food looked a little shabby but overall it was pretty good although now my stomach feels funny and tight. The service was not the best it was just get the food and that’s it No offer for drinks at all.
