WAWA — Restaurant in North Island

We decided to pop in to the downstairs Cafe for lunch today as it was the only thing open on a public holiday. The complimentary water tasted weird like that taste that ice has once its melting, however, my chicken burger was delicious and my baby's pizza and chips was very yummy. My partner ordered what claimed to be an Angus Burger on the menu, once his plate arrived we noticed that his burger was made with those super thin cheap as meat patties from the supermarket. The glasses that were set on the table for the complimentary water were dirty. One of them looked like it had white mold on the glass and another looked like it just had old food stuck on the glass. We all ordered milkshakes. The chocolate milkshakes weren't too bad but the lime milk shake was pretty average. The waiter serving us was lovely and had awesome customer service skills. I have been here many times and have really enjoyed the food and the service however last night was the first time I dined there at night and I was a little disappointed. The waitress was very friendly and helpful but I asked if the duck meal was gluten free. She went to check with the chef who said that it was but when it arrived it had a Yorkshire pudding which certainly wasn't. I wasn't sure about the sauces either. I'm lucky that my intolerance isn't too severe but others may not be as lucky. I just feel maybe a little more training is needed. It was my first visit at the Wawa, and I must say I was taken back by the atmospheric cozy venue. A sizable restaurant to fit our large family. The buffet food was delicious, and regularly replenished throughout the night. Ham, beef, and chicken meat options, included pasta, roast vegetables, coleslaw, also fresh bun selections with real butter. Because I was in a deep food coma I didn't have dessert, but I was told to try the homemade brandy snaps. I'm kicking myself now for not trying them. Next time I'll start with dessert 😊
