Gringas — Restaurant in Northland

My wife booked gj a table for us and my infant daughter. We decided to give this place a go as we had seen the reviews online. When we arrived, the staff were really friendly and were very accomodating to the fact we had a child in a push chair and decided to seat us in the most wheelchair friendly spot ( we didn't expect them to go out of their way to do this).

The staff were really efficient and got us started with drinks. I ordered the regular frozen margharita (it was refreshing) and my wife just got a coke. For food I ordered the corn ribs to start then the prawn/vege tacos for main. My wife decided to just have the churros. Food came out super fast which was great. Only thing I would say is the entree and mains pretty much came out at the same time. Possibly watch the timing to allow people to enjoy the entrees without being bombarded with the mains too quickly. Not a big issue just something we noticed. Food was DELICIOUS! Corn ribs were seasoned and cooked well. Luckily there were 6 as I could have eaten 50. The tacos were really fresh. Prawns cooked very well. Generious anount of salad. I dobbed a bit of salsa verde (I am assuming made in house ) which tied it all together. The churros were fresh. The cinnamon ice cream was to die for. We couldn’t have been more impressed. Portions very generous.

The service was good. The casual atmosphere was very inviting. Staff were friendly. If in Mangawhai, we couldn’t recommend this place more. Price wasn’t too bad considering the quality of the food...

Stopped by Gringas and had a great experience overall. The staff were fantastic—super friendly, and it was lovely to see that they're dog-friendly on their outside seating area. We also appreciated the happy hour specials. The place was very clean, from the shop to the toilets, and the music created a really inviting atmosphere. Service was incredibly fast; we were seated quickly, and our food orders were taken and served promptly. Now for the food itself. While the vegetarian nachos and the burrito were absolutely delicious, we were a bit disappointed with the portion sizes, especially given the price. I tried the deconstructed nachos, which is a great idea in theory for getting a bit of everything in each bite, but the amount of food left us feeling a bit short-changed. I gave this feedback to the staff, who were polite and mentioned they often get praise for their portion sizes, but for us, it was a letdown. "If they don't serve Steak and Eggs then I won't eat" has been my mandate when buying take-out since forever. Even my kids said I need to live a little when it comes to satisfying my ( void of anything spicey or hot ), boring and scripted palate. So last Thursday on the advice of a trusted friend and not wanting to go home and cook after a long day at work I took a dive into the deep end and ordered Guackamole with Chips a Chicken Burrito for my wife and a Pulled Pork Burrito for myself. Short version review: 1) Awesome Ladies and service to start with 2) Ate the Guack and Chips like a man possessed 3) Wife adored the Chicken Burrito 4) Speechless after eating my Pork Burrito-absolutely the best "Meal" I have ever had in such a compact package and I say meal because it was so dam filling I never ate a thing on Friday. Not a bad experience for a bloke dining outside his culinary comfort zone. 100% rating Ladies - Cheers...
