Double 8 Nine — Restaurant in Palmerston North

It's with disappointment that I'm changing my original 5 star review to a 1 star.

4 months later...came back to my hometown looking forward to another round of Double 8 Nine...under new management now. I phoned my order in and when I went to pay, the girl spent five minutes fiddling with the paper roller in the till and eventually called a co-worker over to help, both fiddling around with the till and talking in their own language while I stood there awkwardly waiting, Eftpos card in hand, dinner getting cold. Wish I had bought cash. The food was nice for sure, but with the new management I doubt the gluten free menu will stay for long. Portions have definitely become more stingy too. What a damn shame...

Finally - GF options at fantastic prices. I got a scoop of GF chips and fish of the day all for $7.50. Very friendly...

Simply amazing. I've never had fish like it - really. Such a beautiful, light rice-flour batter on large pieces of fresh fish. The best chips we've had, and they really are careful for coeliacs. Hubby cannot eat even the slightest hint/trace from being "in the same factory". The prices are good, my lads say the g/free burgers are yummy and generous and hubby can hardly wait to try the g/free ginger crunch! They are clearly very caring of their customers and really "onto it" re building a fabulous business and reputation. Caught our eye with the gourmet burger sign so thought we would try it out. Nice chips done perfectly. The burgers were pretty big and lacking in true flavour. Personally I would prefer a nice tender slab of seasoned chicken breast than a stack of deep fried crumbed chicken tenders. And 1 slice of camembert doesn't cut it. The sauce was tasty but the salad was lacking/boring You have lots of other things going positive just rethink those gourmet flavours and combos to nail it. Do some research at...
