K & J Take Aways — Restaurant in Rodney

Anyone growing up heading up to Tawharanui, Omaha, Mathersons, anywhere up there - would probably know this place well.

The after fishing, beach day or surf trip munch is gold. If you want a flash takeaways then keep heading back to the city.

I've been stopping here throughout the various different owners (I guess they must have changed some over the years) for about 35 odd years, ever since just a wee germ with a polystyrene surfboard marching in there with the family after a hard day at the beach.

Now my own son relishes in the knowing that on the way back to the city after a fishing or beach trip up North we are going to get a feed there on the way back and head to the wharf to feed the ducks too!.

The food has always been what it should be after a day at the beach, and while there might be the odd let down here and there as some reviews suggest, this is an after beach takeaways - that's what they are founded on and service.

A cool place to stop for some fried chicken, fish and chips to take down to the wharf.

Don't expect an A grade environment, just expect a good feed from a mean takeaways that in my opinion is a local to Warkworth gem, that many of us have grown up knowing well.

Have ice cream too - deadly for after...

The first thing you'll notice on arrival to K J takeaways is the attention to stock control. You may think to yourself "surely there isn't enough supplies here for them to cook enough to complete my order in its entirety" .......and you would be correct. We ordered three bacon, cheese and onion toasty sandwiches and had to wait while a member of staff went to the supermarket to purchase more bread, we had not been informed of this error at time of purchase but became suspicious we were in for a long wait when the "chef" joined us outside, probably to take the opportunity to look at the other fine stores Warkworth has to offer...... Of which there are none. When the staff member returned with the bread and we finally got our toasties I took my first mouthwatering bite only to discover no onion ...NO...

The amount I could say about this takeaway is endless. The service and dining experience I received was just perfect, everyone was happy and joyful and we bonded as friends later on. There was a young worker there who was apparently the boy of the owner (who was kind of hot too ladies ;)). The food I ordered, which was the chicken fried rice, was very exquisite as it left my taste buds and my stomach to order more for hours and on. The fish and chips tasted very fresh like it was pulled out of the ocean, and was of course served to me by the hot fellow Asian boy. Definitely my favorite places to eat even on a special night out.
