I have been a customer of the Puhoi Pub for quite a very years. (Not a regular, but often). I enjoy my visits very much. There is an excellent selection of beers, spirits and wines. The Bistro menu is awesome, I recommend the fresh fish and chips and salad, the Seafood Chowder and Garlic Bread are mouth watering, too! Ohhh yeah!! Yummy!! The staff are really welcoming and friendly with a wicked sense of humour, super helpful as well. A truly relaxing atmosphere, to boot. You never know who is going to turn up at the Puhoi Pub on the weekend. Could be a well known world class musician, NZ and visitors. Motorcycle enthusiasts turn up with an amazing array of glistening machines. The Classic Car groups visit on a regular basis as well, so there's always something going on. It's so relaxing to sit in the outdoor area, enjoy a drink and meal and observe, - and take it all in. Puhoi Pub, you're...

Very disappointed after our visit today. We came with our 2 friends and we all ordered lunch. Friendโ€™s meals came within 20 mins. One hour and 20 mins later, we were still waiting for ours. Despite the fact we spoke with the owner ( who was clearly stressed by it being busy) meal after meal was leaving the kitchen with no sign of ours. Eventually we asked for a refund. Upon leaving I was accosted by the aggressive owner who accused me of lying about the length of time we waited, told me it wasnโ€™t her fault and said I clearly hadnโ€™t worked in a kitchen. There was absolutely no apology whatsoever. As locals who have visited the Puhoi Pub many times over 30 years and enjoyed every visit, we found this very disappointing. In the future I suggest the owner treats the clientele with โ€œmannersโ€. Unbelievably, there was no apology or compensation for the terrible service, only blame!! We wonโ€™t be returning...

My dad, sister and myself went there yesterday to find out what all the hype on TV about one of Bullocks was about. We hadn't been there in over 20 years and the place still has that down to earth atmosphere, lively locals and the new owner was such a beautiful woman to talk too. The staff behind the counter were friendly and professional, they all knew that we wernt locals, but that didnt stop them from being friendly. We ordered the platter with chicken nibbles, chips, tiny sausages and squid rings with a bowl of tartare sauce, even though I personally dont like squid rings, but those rings were morish, I just wanted a plate full of them. I would definitely recommend this place and am looking forward to going back there again. That used to be our watering hole back in the late 80's early 90's. Thank you team Puhoi, our experience there yesterday was a magical and memorable one. Onwards...

We called in here as a number of people our age have recommended it. As members of the โ€œBoomerโ€ generation, we are always looking for interesting places slightly off the beaten track. We were not disappointed! The service from the ladies in the kitchen could not be faulted, and the $10 oysters and chips were to die for. While waiting for our order we browsed the souvenirs, books, and artisanal chutneys that were available for purchase. I was even able to find the Life of Christ in Cats tea towel, which I had been searching for for some time! Our only โ€œgripesโ€ are that the location seems to attract a lot of road workmen with dirty boots (yuk!), and that we were not able to purchase a wine or beer to enjoy with our oysters and chips, as the premises are not licensed.

I bloody loved this place. Of my entire trip around NZ, I think this was one of my favourites and I can't really explain why. Maybe it was the blues \ americana music playing in the garden, maybe it was the first pub and pub garden, or maybe it was the rain... But all of it made me feel right at home after a few days of jet lag and the hustle of Auckland. The pub displays the village's history on its internal walls. The staff were super friendly. The grub was great, although quite large portions if you're just popping in for a snack. The BLAT sandwich looked (and apparently tasted) awesome (bacon, lettuce, avocado, & tomato, in case you also had no idea!) I would go back in a heart beat.

Puhoi Pub is a great stop for a bite to eat on the way up to Northland, and it regularly has a band playing in the weekendโ€™s My partner and I had a Cheese Bacon Burger and chips and it was a beautiful homemade patty with a big rasher of bacon and fresh lettuce and sliced tomatoes. The chips were crinkle cut and cooked to perfection. There is plenty of BBQ tables all with large market umbrellas for shade. The service was excellent and the old decor was like stepping back to the 1800s What I found awesome was the quests would write on a currency note from NZ or from the country they were from and pin it to the inside walls of the pub soo cool
