Denniston Dog Restaurant & Bar — Restaurant in South Island

An unfortunate dinner experience, but wonderful food. Had to go to the bar to check if a waitress took orders as nobody came to our table. My friend and I ordered 1 dish each - me a starter, my friend a main course. Intention being to eat concurrently. Perhaps not stated clearly enough, but... My steamed rolls came ... to share? (err no - clarified with waitress). No cutlery. The waitress queried, so I said chopsticks (what else?). Ah. No chopsticks. After awhile (2 dumplings into the 4), my friend went to check where was her meal? Coming. When I finished my wine and meal, still no sign of my friend’s dish (45 mins). Another 10 minutes later, the dish arrived. No apology. Nor was there an apology from “awesome” waitress at the till. By “awesome” I mean this was her favourite word, repeated in every response if possible. The dish was well prepared and...

Excellent meal and fantastic service. My son is vegan and whilst there were vegetarian options on the menu, when the waitress asked if he was vegan she went and talked to the chef who made a fantastic vegan burger that my son really enjoyed. That is real customer service and I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Back again mid-winter 22 with a load of 10 West Coast locals on a trip up to Denniston. Stopped for lunch and a few on the Van (OAP's) thought it might be a bit flash for them; but I encouraged them to try and they loved it. 3 or 4 who went looking for the Tea Rooms came back and were a little peeved when everyone else talked about the great meal they'd had. I ordered a pack of Jalapeno poppers to takeaway which were supper for the next 2 days & absolutely delicious. Cannot recommend...

I had a pleasant experience at the Denniston Dog.

Our tour leader made the booking ahead of time for our party of 11 and we were seated in the covered patio outside. I ordered a glass of wine and the chicken blt salad.

It was pretty good! The chicken wasn't dry and the bacon wasn't too fatty. Both meats were seasoned well. And the portion of salad was large so I was pretty full at the end of my meal. The wine was delicious, too. I wish I had room for dessert.

Service was friendly and efficient. The atmosphere is really casual. It was quiet that night, most likely because it was a Monday. I can imagine it would get busier towards the weekend.

Everyone in my group seemed to like their food, so I say give this place a chance if...
