Havenlee Homestay — Hotel in South Island

A huge thank you to the hosts. I'd travelled up the West coast of NZ to Westport with the intention of driving to Picton the following day to get the ferry to the North Island. With less than 24 hours notice I'd received an email from the shambolic ferry company to advise that my ferry was cancelled and no spaces for at least 2 weeks. I advised that I would have to leave early the next morning (around 5am) to travel to Christchurch to return the hire car and get a plane instead. I had to leave a few bits behind as couldn't fit it all in my suitcase (sorry for having to leave those in the room). I was provided with some fruit to take with me in the morning for my breakfast which was really kind. The room was very clean and comfortable. There were patio doors out to a beautiful garden area. Havenlee is a wonderful place to stay! Jan and Ian are very warm and welcoming hosts and think of everything their guests could possibly need! Extra touches are fresh flowers in your room, box of tissues, lovely shower gel, soaps etc. The breakfast is delicious and beautifully presented. The house and guest rooms and bathrooms are sparkling clean, and the water pressure in the shower is like Niagara Falls! The garden is beautiful, full of different flowers and colours, and to be enjoyed from the little terrace off the room. Havenlee is within walking distance to town. Excellent value for money, and I can thoroughly recommend Havenlee as the best place to stay...

Stayed in the Annex room, which was lovely and modern throughout with tea making facilities and an under-bench fridge. The bedroom was bright, comfortable and quiet with an ensuite. Our hosts, Ian and Jan, were extremely friendly and provided a wonderful and well-presented breakfast. We would definitely recommend this B&B, especially for the lone traveller, or a couple who enjoy a homely atmosphere and a friendly chat over breakfast with their hosts and/or other guests, before heading off...
